Anyone read this? It's reminding me a little of Poisonwood Bible. I keep falling asleep though. So. Slow. Moving. I feel like I get malaria just reading it, though! Why am I so impatient!?

I read it in book club. I liked it, though I found the main character annoying at times.

It's on my to-read list. Ann Patchett, right? I liked her other books... and I loved the Poisonwood Bible! IMO it's Kinsolver's best book. All her others were somewhat disappointing to me.
Right now I am in 12th century England, Aquitaine and Normandy (Time and Chance by Sharon Kay Penman) and having a blast!

Yes, Patchett. I still haven't finished it. Hmmm.... not a thing wrong with this book, but I'm not enthralled. I should try the Penman historical fiction. Okay. I've ordered book one in the trilogy.

Ann, I just ordered the last book of the trilogy on my kindle (700 pages! Yay!). I borrowed Time and Chance from the library, not knowing it was the 2nd book in a trilogy. I love the way she writes. It reads like an adventure novel, no boring history lectures! If you read her author's notes, she admits she sometimes invent characters to make things a bit easier to read, and she twists events a bit at times, but for good reasons, and always stays true to history / characters. She also wrote historical mysteries, I might give those a try, too.
Katelyn, which Cleopatra are you reading?

State of Wonder: done. I don't know. Such an elaborate set up in the plot so that she could resolve her life's one big issue, only to repeat the error, but this time, more purposely. Not to mention the new complications she creates at the end! Marina, you've been participating in the medical experiment, and then you do THIS!?! Surely it will only lead to really complicated trouble. (Trying to grumble about the ending, without spoiling it!)

Hmmm, that doesn't sound like something I'd like to read. I am removing it from my to-read list.
Thanks for sharing (and being our guinea pig!) Ann! lol

Heh heh! It would almost spoil it to read it - having seen the diverse comments!
What CAN it be?
