Have you ever heard of it? It's a 'self-help'; philosophy of life sort of thing as far as I can see.
It's not my sort of reading - except that the lady who recommended it to me is one of the people I most respect in the world.
She is intelligent, calm, discerning. She is a work colleague, who has stood by me through thick, thin, floods, fires. She is the principal of my firm of accountants.
Her name is Vas. She is a very high-caste Hindu lady - and therefore very calm; self-assured - but humble. We're not 'friends', Vas and I - but we've known each other for a very long time. She is a very good friend - though not friends.
I don't really buy into these life philosophy tracts, but as long as Vas recommends it, I probably should.
Would you check your shelves, once you have swept up the broken glass and shoo-ed those pesky dragons away?

We have it. I have not read it. Readers/reviewers either believe it is profound and will help them attain health, wealth and happiness (big emphasis on wealth, apparently), or they consider it the sort of nonsense which encourages shallow self-centeredness. I have no idea how the book fits with Hindu philosophy, though it may be compatible with notions of caste. Maybe we all wind up where we are supposed to be.
Read it and tell what you think!

I've read it & watched the movie.
Basically, in a nutshell, the philosophy is "believe it & live it & it will come."
If you want to be healthy/wealthy/lucky in love/whatever, believe that you are, live your life like you are, and you will be.
I try to live my life that way. I do. It doesn't always work out that way. LOL. Maybe my heart just isn't into it enough.

Nah, I'll go with Unbound's critique. I opened the first few pages on Amazon and thus far, I agree with you, Unbound.
It seems to be 'power of positive thinking', with an emphasis on wealth.
I think I should take the spirit of Vas' message rather than the letter.
OK, let's try it. I'm 5'9"; have long blonde legs; have just turned 24 and received a legacy from a long lost and unknown great aunt ....
RIGHT! Who's not concentrating!?

I think that some things you can make happen by "thinking" about them so much that you just take the steps to make them happen. You enjoy the process because you're working towards a goal & it doesn't seem like work, so when you get to the goal, it's almost like you just "thought it & it happened!" Now, can I think myself into winning the lottery? No, but I can sure live like I've won the lottery. Of course, the banks don't like it when I do that...or maybe they do & I'm the one who doesn't like the bills I accumulate (and the lack of lottery funds to pay the bills off!!!).

Oh Ann! That's .... I thanked Vas and said (tactfully) that I don't think it's really my sort of thing ... haven't heard from her since. Perhaps I should have just done positive thinking - aka 'lie'. Rats! I hope they file my company tax returns. No, wait. Vas HAS filed the tax returns. If we receive a fine, it's not REALLY a fine; we won't receive a fine, I don't have to pay the fine ... I'm not really in debtor's prison ... Oh, that way, madness lies ... Or tells the truth, or OH GAWD!
