First is the only American competing (that I could find anyway-they ran alot of horses!) Lauren Hart and Dunrath Alto Next is an unidentified rider andhorse over the middle section of the Newgrange jump. This jump combination was awesome...over a verticle, up the bank, over the house (as shown), down the bank, and than another verticle! And yes, it was raining the whole day. Well, more like a steady, heavy mist. But the turf never gave out-never got muddy and dried instantly when it stopped raining for a while. It was amazing!

I just tried to post this and lost it somewhere, so we might get two versions - sorry!
LOOK at those jumps! And LOOK at those horses not worried in the slightest. Aah - I'd love that.
My friends and I went on a cross country weekend in Ireland, just before Christmas (ooh, yes, rain!) and jumped courses we would never have believed possible. (And WOULDN'T be possible with our own horses!) But that little house - there was one like that, called 'The Cottage'. We bounced down steps, down water drops. Oooh - it was terrifying but wonderful!
But can you IMAGINE doing it at that level - and on your own horse. I'm sooo jealous!
Did you ride in Ireland while you were there?

Bara, I agree...that level of riding is amazing!! I didn't ride when I was there but there is a riding/lesson stable next to Punchestown. I don't think you are allowed to jump the BIG jumps though!

Here's where we went : www.greystones-ireland.com/Not in the league of the people you saw CC - but exciting enough for us. We went for the weekend - so had four different 'sessions'. They give you a different horse each ride. Oh it was wonderful. There were rides called things like 'The Mile Gallop' - the 'Long Hurdles' - just a mile long track with jumps all the way down. 'The Quarry' which you took in synchronised (!)pairs - down drops; up banks; over ditches. 'The Garden Route' - which was circular and which entailed jumping in and out of a field (no other way!) Each sequence of jumps involved anything between 5 and 9 varied jumps. We're going back!! I have NEVER jumped downhill before that, and jumped DOWN a series of 7 steps - sharp left, over a fence, down a water-drop ... etc. SCARED?? Not half! Oh - and to name-drop - Greystones is the Hunting Lodge in the grounds of Castle Leslie - where Paul McCartney married Heather who's-her-face. But given the choice - I'd bring home 'Smartie' the teeny-tiny 15'2 liver chestnut I fell in love with! Keep yer Beatles! (ps - and it was durrrt cheep! That's Ireland for ya! Listening, CatB??)

Oooh Bara that sounds like a lot of FUN!! I'd love to ride a X-country course on a seasoned horse (for a change hahaha). I haven't BEEN on a really good, seasoned horse in about...20 years!!!
I've always dreamed to go to one of those 'adult riding camps'...there are some around here, but they're expensive...
