...but I REALLY WANT to run a marathon!!! My friend and I just finished my second half-marathon yesterday and it felt GREAT!! It wasn't fast by any stretch of the imagination, but I really enjoyed myself. It's literally been years since I've trained seriously for something...I ran track and cross country all the way through middle school, high school, and college, and I've been running off-and-on since then. My goal is to do a 26.2 while I'm still 26!! I think there's a few on here who have experience...any tips, tricks, training ideas, ways to get a great workout in in a short time, encouragement? I'd like to keep track of my progress, and might just update this thread once a week. Anyone else out there with me and want to run one before January 31st?? I'm really excited to try ;D

You're crazy.
(I hate running - bad knee, bad back and now bad foot, not to mention no endurance whatsoever!)
But: Good for you and I wish you the best!

I've done Baltimore and I did 23.5 miles of Chicago before they kicked me out b/c they thought I had a stress fracture in my foot. I was furious, I could have walked/crawled the last 2.7 miles . Anyhow, I don't really have any tips on how to get a good workout in a short time b/c I'm more of a slow and steady kind of girl and slow and steady workouts tend to take a lot of time. That's why I'm currently not running marathons. It's SO much time. I did find that adding 5-10 sprints into the middle of every run made me a ton faster. I went from about 10min/mile to about 8.5min/mile which is a huge difference in time over 26.2 miles. Also good running shoes (which you probably already know if you are running halfs) and recovery drinks are very helpful. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to drink Endurox R4 after runs more than an hour. It keeps my muscles from getting too exhausted so that I can get back out and go again the next day. You're not crazy. I loved running marathons and really want to be doing it still. I just can't find the time to do everything that I want to do. Good luck!

Perhaps google some tips? As for marathons, I get that thought from time to time, friend of mine used to run marathons. Of course, then I think am I nuts? Best of luck on your training.
That said, I've been doing some jogging lately myself when I can fit it in.

I really want to do a half marathon in May! I started running a few weeks ago, but now I'm going on week 3 of no running :/ I was only up to 3 miles lol. I hurt my heel somehow (I have a bad foot, but that why they invented Tylenol ) but I want to get back into it. I 'm only planning on the 1/2 marathon, a full marathon sounds frightening!
