I bought Skip(Winloc's Nelson) in Feb. of 08 with the intention of breeding him to one of my mares(see Camp River) but 9 days after he arrived, she suddenly passed away, so the put a kink in that plan. He was such a well behaved stallion, always respected me and never tried anything stallion-like. Heck, I even wondered if he knew he was still intact So, after Starr passed away, I decided to have him gelded and turn him into a horse I could ride but then my vet broke his ankle and was laid up for a very long time. Of course, with us being in a very rural area-he was the only vet available. It was then that Skip started developing arthritis in his ankle. I tried everything possible to halt the progression until the vet could get to him but the problem started long before I got him. he was raced until 9 yrs of age. towards the end, he had no flexion in that ankle and the only way I could make him comfortable was to for him to be on heavy doses of bute. Trimming his feet was awful, he wouldnt lift the left anke for that hoof to be trimmed. the weekend before I had him euthanized, he was started to get weakness in both hind legs. The vet came out and said it would be a long and expensive problem to find out the cause. so instead of letting him suffer anymore, I let him cross the Rainbow Bridge....Rest in Peace Skip and run free!!

I'm very sorry for your loss. He was a handsome boy.
