hes a saddlebred(which Ive always loved), just gelded and was a stud. I dont think his conformation is anything awsome but theres just something about him that I really like. I might go see him this weekend since he isnt that far. There is a couple mares and another just gelded guy also that I like. I talked to a lady last night and she said he is a sweet heart...since I dont know how to post a pic heres the link.....if that works. Tell me what you think of him, be honest. Oh and hes big enough for me too LOL. www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi?action=2&pet=1423538&adTarget=468petsgeneral&SessionID=3e70750503325cdc-app3&display=&preview=0&row=200

Another horse??!!! Is that really reasonable Tina He looks sweet, and in good health. I'm no expert, but I don't like his conformation, he's loooong, it looks like it will be hard for him to step under and collect, but I understand why he caught your eye.

Hey Tina, First, I would find out if he ever bred. It might effect whether or not he'd be good with other horses. My Tango wasn't gelded until I got him when he was almost 4, but he didn't know how use anything. As far as how he's put together, first impression isn't all that great. Take it for what it's worth, I know NOTHING about Saddlebreds. I don't care for the rather flat croup and it doesn't look like he'd be able to step under himself very well, isn't that part of what makes them so comfortable? He does have a nice shoulder, though. However, the most important thing is attitude, which you can't see in a picture! If you go take a look, let us know what you think. (And I'm sure others here may a different opinion than me!)

from what I was able to find out he is out with other horses and is ok, preferes company and hasnt shown any studish behavoir for the most part althou he was used to breed. His conformation for a saddlebred isnt really all that bad compared to some Ive seen. they tend to have a longer back so they can do that slow gate and the rack. I do think he is a lil long but not to bad. He has the high set tail and his head is nice I think. They say is 100% sound and hasnt had any problems while there. Im thinking he is a lil short in his back end but it wont matter forme as long as he is sound. Heres another link to the other gelding they have for adoption....hes also nice but I lik ethe other one better for some reason...maybe I could get both and have a nice driving team LOL.... www.petfinder.org/pet.cgi?action=2&pet=1423533&adTarget=468petsgeneral&SessionID=3e70afec3d1b2b51-app2&display=&preview=0&row=200

I like the first one better. I don't think he looks bad for a Saddlebred at all. One of the vets here raises Saddlebreds and I've been out to feed them several times. Anyway, that guy looks very similar to this guy's breeding line, and he has very well bred stock, out of world champion stallions and mares. They can be pretty raunchy horses on the ground. Especially if they were shown any. They are trained to have fire in their eyes and go off. The wilder, the better.

Ive had 2, one was a ball of fire and the other was completely different and was so mellow and easy going. Ive always loved this breed cause they do tend to be so full of themselves, so to speak, I love those firey horses LOL. Yeah I think the other is more typical of the breed and actualy they both have really good breeding from what the lady told me. Theres something about Dakota that has been pulling on my heart strings since I saw his pic a week ago. What do you see different about him compared to the other guy and to your friends sdbreds?

Hi Tina,
I don't care for his conformation much either.. he is pretty though! I can see why you like him. Those front legs are so darned thin and straight... and the hind... he looks strange in the rear end...

I love his color and to me he looks JUST LIKE a saddlebred! Of course, I have to admit that I don't really dig saddlebreds though. That might have a lot to do with working as a groom for the natl. shows though...and it just wasn't my type of thing.
What did you find out about the stalls and things that the lady up the road from your new farm had? I must have missed it somewhere?

I just like the first guy's overall package better than the second one. The first looks more in balance to me, again, only compared to what I've seen at Dr. McBride's farm. This guys shows Roadster classes, so I'm not sure if that type of Saddlebred look is different from normal or not. The second guy is heavier, but I don't think it's his build, I think he's just had more groceries and is more fit than the first guy. I also wonder how long ago the second was gelded. He just looks like a handful, IMO. I will put my normal disclaimer that I don't have the qualifications to comment on anything really, but I'm just giving my opinion which may be opposite of everyone else. Here is a show Saddlebred- yes, his tail was set, but not by my friend who owned him. This was before she got him. Anyway, he has since passed on, but he was quite the show horse.

Hey, I'd buy em both! Both of those guys are handsome! Dakota does look a little bit better, he has a sweet look. But I think the other one, Hoss, just took a bad picture. I'd check him out too.

He looks like a horse with a sense of humor! Sometimes horses that you dont think would be a nice ride because of their confirmation end up being a a really nice ride, you never know till you see him move. That's a beautiful color.

I like Hoss better, of the two. The first one seems downhill, which is not how a ASB should be built. Also, his neck seemed to come out of his shoulder low (for an ASB). Hoss looks okay, but if I were you, I would get my barn set up and ready to move in before getting more horses. I paid board on 3 horses the last year I boarded, and that gets pricey

thanks everyone...I wanted all ur honest advice. On dakota I dont like his conformation all that much but Im not doing any showing or anything else so as long as the horse is sound with his fualts I dont mind. I think he would make a great second riding horse for hubby, friends and maybe in time the kids. I will need to do some training with him but from what they told me he is very willing and eager to please but does have a couple minor quirks about him, nothing we cant live with and work on thou. Now hoss has some issues that I dont think would make him ideal for what I need, althou I wouldnt mind him as a riding horse for myslef LOL. I do think he is a handsome guy and his conformation is definately better, attitude and willingness is not thou. There was just something about dakota when I saw his pic ya know. If I go this weekend to see him I will check out the other gelding and the mares also, who knows right...Since the farm is in such good condition there isnt much at all I will need to do to keep 2 or 3 horses imediately(provided I get my old guy too). Im not all that worried on the stalls right from the start being I do have run in space and with a couple hours work 2 stalls I can use now to isulate horses plus 3 seperate pens that I just need to run electric tape on. SPRING is going to be here any day so Im not worried on it getting to cold once we are there. For me having another horse or 2 wouldnt be more stressful since they are my stress relievers LOL(they are like valuims for me LOL)....yes I can handle another horse at this time. If I need to I can keep him at the rescue for a board donation till the closing and I also have a friend in NJ that could keep him for me too. I look at it that horses come along every day but not all that many pull at my strings and this guy sure as heck did. I might go and not even like him but I dont think that will happen, theres just something about him. Thanks everyone for ur advice and thoughts on this guy....
