Takoda is a 14yr old 16.1 hand TB gelding. I bought this guy two days after his last race....out of the killer buyer's barn. At the time he was lame on one of his ankles but his sweet disposition begged for someone to save him. I bought him, brought him home and turned him out. Figuring time would heal his injury and eventually he'd be a good riding partner for someone. After handling him and being around him a bit, "Takoda" proved to be quiet, kind and in your pocket. Exactly the type of horse that anyone would love to keep on their farm because he was just so easy to get along with. My best friend bought him from me and has owned him ever since (I believe he was 9yrs old at the time but don't quote me on that). Since then, Takoda has moved to a few different barns until his own place was built. Each time he moved, he settled in quickly and has always been a barn favorite. Takoda has only been ridden intermittently but always proves to be quiet and willing. He did have about 30 days of under saddle training and some trail riding but has not been ridden much since then just due to lack of time. He is sound and sane even with a lack of real training under his belt. Takoda would be best suited for dressage/flat work or trail riding. He does have old osselets in his ankles and the racing injury that ended his career was a cracked sesmoid. It has been many years and he's healed well. Due to these old injuries, his current owner has asked that the new owner NOT jump him so as to prolong his soundness for life. Not that he isn't physically capable of jumping a log or two on a trail ride.....but in the horse's best interest, she asks that he is not jumped on a regular basis.
Takoda is being offered free to an appropriate, approved him only because of his owner's lack of time for him. Life has become a bit busy and Takoda really would love to have his own person to be spoiled by. Please do not let his age deter anyone from considering him. He's had quite the "cushy" life since retiring from the racetrack and really does not know his age!
Takoda is located in North Georgetown, OH.
References will be checked.
His owner would prefer to do a free lease to own type of deal (consider it a long her trial of sorts). She wants to make sure this is a good match for horse AND rider. Takoda can be returned at any time for any reason.
