juliab, Is there a possibility your horse is an exception? Anyway, all I know is that any of the Storm Cat relatives I have worked with have been hot (on and off the track), and my friend's gelding is a bad, BAD boy.

I've heard of lots of SC grandkids that are great. Indy is by Forest Wildcat and he was a good boy too. There are probably some SC stallions that were better than others. Plus the mares involved have a lot to do with temperament and SC was bred to some fabulous mares. Maybe Indy is just different. It is a problem though because sporthorse breeders see SC and run away

Inga,
would that be lucky commander anywhere in the background? Lol
I grew up on saddlebreds and had a great little gelding who was as good as any in the country (when I could stay on). That was the trade off for being able to afford him. He was a sultans starmaker and quite the firecracker.

Ha Ha No, it was Kouragous Kalu but I rode several Lucky Commander horses too. People used to call my mare May West and say "when she is good she is good but when she is bad, she is even better." LOL One trainer told me riding her was like sitting on a keg of dynamite, you never knew when it would blow up. Through all that, she was a blast to ride. I was younger then. lol

We have a yearling by Bluegrass Cat, he's an ASS lol. He was a pain to halter break, a pain to train to load, and every day when we turn him out he acts like he's never been lead before. His dam was a daughter of marias mon. so i dont know if it's the cross or him being storm cat bred, his mom was a love bug

I've heard the same about Storm Cat, but obviously there are many exceptions. I really like the AP Indy babies, because I am just drawn to their looks, personality, etc.

Inga, I also have heard that about SC offspring. it probably also depends on the mare and her bloodlines. Truth is a Blushing Groom grandkid. Ive been told that BG throws Very Nice temperment babies. Aand Truth is proof of that. he has a very nice temperment. i have more to write buty this damn computer is giving me problems AGAIN. MORE LATER!!!!

my bluegrass cat is just straight up bipolar. sweet as can be then, BAM, crazy. She had to be caught and ponied on the track last week for her routine gallop. silly filly.

My guy is a Storm Cat grandson and he is incredibly mellow and easy going. The only time he ever gave me trouble was when we he was having to live in a 12x12 stall with no turnout, and even then he just had a lot of pent up energy. This post is funny, because had I read it a couple years ago I may have been a little apprehensive about buying him, I give this board a lot of credit Maybe he is an exception, or maybe it's because he is a grandkid, or perhaps his mom's temperment has outweighed the bad, but I have been incredibly pleased with his ease of training. He's the first TB I've gotten straight from the track, and he's the only one at my barn that is straight from the track. Many OTTB's but they have all been trained by other people. And everyone just loves him and I think he's definitely been a positive experience and much different than the "nightmare" some other riders associate with horses from the track.

Does anyone have experience with Sadlers Wells bred horses? Our filly is out of a daughter of Sadlers Wells....I like her confirmation and movement, but she is SUPER fine boned, and of course tiny feet to go with it...She is 15.3 so I am hoping she will stay sound (only 13 starts, all except one at the mile )....Her sire is Ecton Park, and in photos I can't tell if he was fine boned or not...Just curious....

I have a 4 year old Stormcat grandbaby (by Freud) He is sweet sweet sweet and mellow - will do anything. He last raced in Nov. and is now my go to guy for trail riding (needs more ring work) He has done one 10 mile hunterpace and will be doing another one in a couple of weeks. Ziggy Mon is actually more mellow than my 9 year old OTTB mare that I have had for 4 years. He had some issues in the starting gate at the track - so maybe that wasn't the job for him. I think behavior is related to their environment as well - his trainer at the track told me he was a great horse, bad in the gate, probably didn't like racing and would be very happy off the track and on a farm. He was right!
