Given that DH and I seem to be having no luck at all on the baby front, I've decided to put that on the back burner for a few months and do another marathon. I haven't done one since 2005 and I'm very out of shape and overweight so it's going to suck a little.
My college roommate works with me now and I convinced her that she wants to train for the Baltimore Marathon with me. I think that her husband is going to do it as well but he's too fast to train with us and my husband wants to do the half marathon.
Anybody want to play ;D?

Oh, yes! Realistically, I don't have time to train for the full marathon, but I'll come down and do the half! I'm running a 10-miler and a 15K in July, and a half-marathon in August, but I have nothing so far to keep me "honest" in the fall. Our last horse show of the season is Oct. 2, so there's nothing to prevent me from being in Baltimore that weekend.
And who knows, if the August half goes well, maybe I'll suck it up and run the full - albeit very, VERY slowly!

Believe me I will be "running" very slowly. I did Baltimore in 2004 and finished in 4:40. I probably would have made 4:20 but I had some ...erm...digestive issues that caused me serious problems for the last 10 miles. During my training runs and the first 16 miles of the race I was running 9 min/miles. This time I'll be ecstatic to make 4:30 or better. I'm pretty sure that I've got the digestive issues worked out now. I was about 20-30# lighter when I ran it in 2004 though so I've got some work to do on that. Mostly I'm just extremely ashamed of how out of shape I am at the moment and also in need of an "accomplishment." I take failures personally so I need a pick me up to get me back going. The race is October 15th and runners have to pick up their packets in person on the 14th so DH and I will hopefully be getting a hotel room for Friday night at the inner harbor. Maybe you and your husband can do the same? I HATE trying to run around to get to a race when it's so early that it's still dark outside. Being able to walk a short distance to the race start the morning of will be a welcome change for me. One of the great things about Baltimore Marathon is that it takes a while to fill up. I think that there have been years that it actually never did fill up unlike Chicago and Marine Corps that are full within hours or days. Since it doesn't close for awhile you might be able to either wait awhile to register and see how things go with the amount of time you have to train or you *might* be able to change a half marathon registry at the last minute to a full marathon. This is so exciting!

OH! We'd get a hotel room on the harbor, that sounds very cool!
I noticed that the registration seemed to fill slowly -- they warned that last year it filled up before the Expo, but that's the same week! I'm used to New York, which is a crazy lottery and hard to get into even a year ahead. I'm going to hold off and register in August after I run the half up here, see where I am. I can't imagine it fills before then.
First, you are way harder on yourself than you should be. That said, I TOTALLY hear you about being out of shape. I'm finally within spitting distance (25 pounds) of my normal weight, but during 4 years of fertility treatments, and developing asthma in the middle of it, I gained 75 pounds--and it has taken me over 2 years to lose fifty of them. I am determined to shed the remaining 25 before October, but the only way I'm doing that is signing up for long races and making myself train.
I was running 10Ks in 5 and 6 minute miles ten years ago (which sounds like a long time, but feels like yesterday); I ran the 10 miler two weeks ago at a 10/11-minute-mile pace most of the way, with some 12s at the end. Still a loooooong way to go! But if I can do the half in 8-9 minute miles, I'll run the full in Baltimore. Deal??

Sounds good to me. I noticed that the registration seemed to fill slowly -- they warned that last year it filled up before the Expo, but that's the same week! I can't imagine it fills before then. I hear ya. Marine Corps Marathon used to be on a lottery system. I never really understood how it worked. People just told me that you're best bet for getting into MCM was to run for a charity team like Team in Training. I would love to do that except for the tiny little problem that I don't like to ask people for money and you have to raise $3000 to run for Team in Training. Anyway now they ditched the lottery system but it literally fills up in HOURS. It's crazy and it's a BIG race with lots of spots. It's just really popular. For whatever reason Baltimore isn't so popular. I thought it was pretty well run. Some of the course is a little creepy if you were running by yourself but within the confines of a marked off race route with spectators and police everywhere it's fine. The race shirts are Under Armour so they're really nice. It should be fun even if I end up having to crawl parts of it ;D.

"Some of the course is a little creepy if you were running by yourself but within the confines of a marked off race route with spectators and police everywhere it's fine." Yeah, the 10 miler I ran on May 1 runs through the single poorest census tract in the US. Wouldn't really drive through there by myself, but with a few thousand of your closest friends it's much less terrifying. I'll bring kneepads. No woman should have to crawl alone! MTA I am a Luddite, and don't know how to quote you the nifty way you quoted me!

have fun ladies! I so wish I could still run. Maybe I could bike it? My husband biked the Philadelphia marathon when I ran that.
