Hey all I am home sick from work today and a friend has asked me to look on the net for her and see if I can find anything about giving Apple Cider Vinegar to your horse to ward off flies. Fly sprays are highly toxic and she is trying to find an alternative. She was interested in feeding garlic but (thanks to me) got scared off by the fact that it can make your horse anemic.
Anyone tried Apple Cider Vinegar or heard anything positive or negative in regards to feeding it to horses? Thanks.

To clarify, the confusion lies with any dangers to feeding it therefore warding off flies through their pores, or is it better to just make an external spray for the horses. Anyone heard of this?

Hmmm...I would think the smell would deter them form eating it at all. Not sure about the safety of it. I just read an article about an alternative though. I can't find the link but it had to do with filling a clear plastic bag (ziplock) with water 3/4 full and putting 4 pennies into the bag. Hang it in doorways are in run in sheds and supposedly the flies go bye-bye. I've never heard of this before but I'm going to try it this year!

I used to use apple vinegar. It doesn't work too bad if you rotate it w/ other fly sprays. I just sprayed it on them. They will smell like huge easter eggs, ep in the hot summer heat!!!!
