again - for another OTTB of course!!! Avalon has blown her tendon again on just the light schooling that she was doing, so it looks likely that she will never really be sound on it again. Bummer. I was hoping to breed her, but not for a couple of years. So what to do with the poor old girl in the meantime. But - my girlfriend says she might take her on a breeding lease for a while, as she has arabians and would really like an anglo-arab baby or two, then I could still have her to breed in a couple of years when I have more room. So if that happens I would need to get a friend for Jasper and would have an empty stall to fill! So what looked like bad news might not be so bad. Except of course that I have NO money for another horse right now!

I don't think we can ever afford to buy a horse, we just do it. ;D And yup, you KNOW you are gonna get swamped with pics. ;D Now are you still wanting another mare, that is the question? And just think, we have all the Canter sites covered here.

Claie, I saved a post from the clickryder email list about a woman in WA state who is in a racing partnership and has 2 free TB geldings right now. Email me and I'll give you her email if you like. Both are sound 5-6 yrs. old, not started until 3 and lightly raced.

Im sorry about the tendon, that stinks. Ive been drool shopping around since I will have that big barn soon to fill up and I came across a gelding and a mare both OTTBs and sound that are free to approved homes. I wil try to find where I saw hem and post the link for ya. Im not sure where they were but I know it wasnt anywhere close to me, maybe they are closer to you. I will back track and see if I can find them for ya....

Bummer. When one of my guys blew his tendon, I let him be for about 9 months in the pasture. He came back super sound and jumped and did all of his stuff again but it was a very long waiting period. That's why you always need more than horse!

Thanks Tina and CC for any information!
Yeah, Vida - I'm the queen of repairing tendons and take the same approach as you, usually a bowed tendon doesn't bother me (Jasper has one too) - but this one's got me beat. It is the third time she's blown this one, and wasn't even doing anything. She has a LOT of scar tissue surrounding the whole tendon. I just think it wasn't given the best opportunity to heal the first time she tore it (I didn't own her then), and now is just a little too compromised. If I had the pasture myself I would turn her out and just retire her until I was ready to breed, but I don't have any pasture and only space for two horses. My girlfriend is just up the road so it will be almost like not having to let her go, and she will make some lovely foals for her.

That's great!! I always feel so guilty that I cannot possibly give another deserving horse a home right now (my 2 take all my time and $$$). But I'll always try to connect people who are looking or placing. With the internet, it becomes so much easier!!
Keep us updated!

Ya know what they say. One's not enough, Two's too many. I find that's even true when one is semi retired.
