I've been reading about Pentosan and have been thinking about starting Boy on it. I have been over to COTH and researched it and thought I would ask here if anyone has experience with it and what your results were. It seems to almost always show positive results (in some cases remarkable) and is much cheaper than Adequan.
Also...if you use it, where do you get it and what's the cost? Horsemedsonline has it but from what I've read, it's shipped from Australia and can get hung up in customs. I've heard of vets getting it compounded from Wedgewood and it's about $150 for 10 doses. That's around $15 per dose instead of $48 for Adequan. I really want to try it but want to make sure it's safe. The next time I'm up at the vet hospital, I will ask the vet what he thinks.

If I remember correctly there was a discussion about this on Ultimate Dressage a few months ago. You might try posting something there and see what you get.

I'm not sure where our vet got it but we used it for 4 months on an 18 yr old 18 hd hanno that was doing Prix St. George. It worked great along with the Adequan shots I think. I can ask my trainer. We didn't have any side effects except that the horse was very very happy and moved well for his old age. I can find out how much it was this weekend if you want.

Thanks hopper and filly!
Filly that would be great if you could find out for me. I think I'm going to talk to my vet about getting it from Wedgewood. If he won't do that, then I'll have to get it from horsemedsonline. Even with their $50 shipping charge it's still much cheaper than Adequan.

My vet was able to get it and it's $200 for a 50ml bottle! That's $20 a dose, less than half of Adequan!
I can't wait to give it a try!

Sorry I didn't get back sooner. I did ask my trainer and she said our vet thinks it's some top secret crap and said you would have to get it where you could. Apparently it's a human med that is hard to get in quantity and isn't tested for or some such....anyways, glad you were able to find some and I hope it works for yoU!

No problem I think I had my mind made up on trying it anyway. Wedgewood pharmacy has the license to compound an un refridgerated version of it so that's where he was able to get it. I told my vet as long as it's not more expensive than Adequan, I want some. Especially with the availabity of Adequan being a problem right now. Everything I've heard about it so far has been very promising
