I gotta question for you guys!!!
So, after I bragged about how nice my filly was doing, a couple days later she managed to find the only hole in her stall to get her foot thorough and completely shred herself! She has a VERY large cut across her hock that she splits open daily, and a nasty gash on her hind shin that is healing well. However, the one that is the worst is the big gash on her pastern. I had a vet look at it and he said because of how it was cut and where it was that the best thing to do would be to keep it clean, put on antibiotics, and just heal. I clean it daily and also use that Veterclyn stuff. It is not infected and new tissue is growing, etc
Well, now that it is healing, she will not hardly bare weight on that leg. She stands and walks on her toe. Some people tell me its because the cut is healing and when it scabs up its sore when she flexs. I can maybe see that, but what do you all think?

It's hard to use in colder weather (put in bucket of warm water helps soften it up), but Corona (the ointment) would probably be a good thing for a wound in that location. Oh wait, you're in southern CA, so weather shouldn't be a huge issue.

Your poor filly! All I can tell you is that when Charm cut her front pastern she was dead lame, and it was only because it hurt and of course every time she'd step the wound would reopen. I didn't get infected or anything but took some time to heal. But (as much as I love her) Charm is a wuss and the littlest booboo is a BIG deal with her. If I remember well (that was years ago) I used Furazone ointment on it to keep it moist and protected while healing, but I think I also used Neosporin Plus at some point because from having used it myself I know it helps with pain and speeds up healing. I hope she heals up quickly.
