Growth and training

I have an opportunity to get a 3 year old TB (only halter broke, no other training). How long before he's mature enough to start training and will he grow up and out any more than he already is? no name yet but he's by Tisbud out of Scare Tactics. Thanks

I wasn't quick enough to snatch him but I'm getting a 3 year old mare still by Tisbud and out of Watermelon Wine. Going to do ground work until I get her back to Wis and then my trainer can 'back' her.

Nice pedigree, his 1/2 brother won over $600,000 and another 1/2 brother won over $300,000.
They aren't usually done growing until about 5, or so. I would start working with the horse right away.
