Some reviews on Amazon were not very good:
"One of my main problems with the book is how often the author reminds us of how Ayla grew up and how "foreign and exotic" Ayla patterns of speech are to the new people she meets. 90% of the people who will read this book have read at least one of the other Ayla books so we all know her upbringing and why she's just so gosh-darned special and wonderful. I don't need to be beaten over the head with a caveman club about it every 10 or so pages. It starts feeling like filler after a while. "
(this is exactly what irked me about the Shelter of Stones...and how many times do we need to be told how people must greet Wolf? lol) And: "I'm an archaeologist and appreciate the incorporation of real artifacts and anthropological details, but enough is enough. The stories would be better reads if she cut out some of the repetitious descriptions, endless recitations of titles, and about half the pages. "
hmmm I think I will wait for a library copy...in the meantime I'll re-read the 1st three books!

I read some that were very good On Amazon also they did say that she repetitive in parts but very much like the other books in the series. I still think for those who read all the books it will be a good read.

Yes I got it last night while laying in bed ;D ;D Too cool!! I started it and was up til wee hours reading, LOVE IT!! Yes it's just like the others, she does explain or reminds us of things but I found that I needed some of that because I had forgotten some of the things the characters had done. These books span over many years. I didn't get to go back and reread any of them. And OH I LOVE MT KINDLE

I read it twice already....first time to get the gist and second to see what I missed. It certainly is above the reviews, despite the many references to the past books (I see this more for people who never read the first couple of books). The biggest failing was the non-ending - the story is unfinished; there should have been more. What happened with some of the characters? Did they live or die? Cause more trouble or grow into solid citizens? The story was great but no ending.

I found the same thing, I enjoyed the book but I wanted more. An ending !! It does leave it for someone else to pick up the story and continue.
