Thought I'd try posting here since y'all have so many horses and connections between you. My young OTTB is just starting over fences after more than a year rehabbing from hind pastern surgery. He's my equine soulmate, and I am bringing him along very very slowly and carefully in the hopes of keeping him sound for the long haul.
However, I just sold my older mare, and I'd like to keep myself sharp jumping courses over the winter, perhaps do a little local showing indoors. I'm looking to lease a horse that is jumping courses with a decent flying change (doesn't need to be "automatic"). I'm flexible about details (mare, gelding, type of mover), as long as the horse is honest to fences and not dangerous to ride or handle. I don't mind age or maintenance if the horse is serviceably sound doing 2'6" at home and 3' at shows. I'd prefer 15.3 or taller, but would consider smaller. I'm 5'7" and 160 pounds.
I'm a lifelong horseowner in my mid-40s, evented through training in the late '80s, competed in dressage and/or hunters intermittently since. I'm now doing adult amateur hunters working towards the 3'6" ring. The horse would have the best of care in an excellent facility in upstate NY, warm 12 x 12 stalls, heated indoor, acres of turnout with 6' board fencing. I ride with a top regional hunter trainer who's very soft and kind.
I'm hoping to find a student, or someone without an indoor, or on a tight budget, or lacking time to ride, etc., who wants her horse in a regular supervised program over the winter. I only jump 3 days/wk at home, and rarely over 2'3". I'm very flexible about dates to suit the owner's needs, but would prefer 6 months, October to March. I would pay a lease fee in addition to horse costs if absolutely necessary, but prefer not to. Within a few hundred miles of Syracuse/Rochester area is ideal, but would consider shipping further if the situation was right.
I'm not interested in buying, although the perfect (youngish) horse could change my mind. Reply or PM me if you have any suggestions. Thanks!
