What can you feed a horse that is on stall rest that is super sensitive to sugar type alfalfa type feeds and keep him fat?
My friend states Blushing has lost a lot of weight and doesn't know what to do. His feet get really sore if he is on grain or alfalfa with no exercise and he is currently on stall rest only.
I told her 1 cup oil a day and was thinking of a soy meal pellets, but not sure if they should have that being on stall rest?

All the grass hay he wants and I would add beet pulp as well to make a base for supplements and medications.

If your friend can find some fine stemmed Bermuda Grass hay that tests at 14% or so that will help alot. Timothy Grass hay is the ultimate horse hay, but I'm not certain of the protein or sugar rich calorie content. Keeping weight on a horse in stall rest only is difficult to do. Like Big Tee said, "keep grass hay in his stall 24/7".
