Well, here we go. The hot hot HOT summer weather has arrived and my poor Bones is melting. He does not handle the West Coast summer weather at all, which is funny because he is from Florida!
Last summer the same thing happened.
I am thinking about electrolytes for him. I was told Pureform is good because it is lower in sugar.
Any thoughts?

In a nutshell, if any ingredients end in 'ose', that is sugar. Better to take loose livestock salt or table salt if you have to and lite salt and mix half and half and put a heaping tablespoon of that in his food.

Our vet recommended 'half salt' (made by Windsor in Canada) and we add a Tablespoon to the feed. Probably more expensive than Big Tee's recipe but convenient.

Thanks for the tips.
Wondering if anyone has any suggestions on Electrolyte brands, though.

Brands are pretty much what makes YOU feel good. The horse doesn't really care if it is just salt and lite salt or some fancy sweet cherry flavoured concotion. Frankly, unless the horse is in heavy work, a couple of tablespoons of plain loose livestock salt is all it needs, and less if the soil saline content is high as the salt goes into the grass.
The salt and lite salt I mentioned is a favourite of endurance riders, so it must have something going for it, besides saving money.
