Found a picture of Grace at his prior owners, before he was relinquished to the rescue center. What a handsome boy! (hope this picture posting thing works) Generation 3 - In Reality This horse is the only picture that really looks like him. You can literally transpose the body, but not the head or neck. Waaay old picture in his ancestry - Concertina was born in 1896! Look at that broodmare back Oops! Even older! Look at this...The Flying Dutchman 1846 Question for you racing fans, what does it mean when a horse is "bumped at the start". Thanks!

"bumped at start" means pretty much what it sounds like - another horse bumped into him.

Grace's owner's collected on his insurance and then the insurance company turned him into the rescue center. He was diagnosed with incurable navicular, and shows some pathology of the right hind leg - although there was nothing mentioned about that leg. He was not turned in for abuse or neglect. Years ago I worked with injury and illness rehabilitation with people, and have always worked with animals, although not professionally. Although I would not jump him now, I believe that I can get him to the point where no one would know that he had ever had a problem...and where he can jump again. By the way, he doesnt know he shouldnt jump and man does he have the hops. Then again, he feels most of his pain in the rear legs, not the front. His name is Grace (not the woman's name) for a lot of reasons. Some of the dictionary defintions are: Beauty and Charm (of which he has tons) and Ease and Suppleness of Movement and Bearing (which he's returning to), not to mention Grey + Race.

Wowie. He is a handsome boy! Love the old photos too. What a lucky boy he is to have you. Do his previous owners know where he is? I would hate not knowing the outcome of my horse.

I have not contacted the previous owners yet. I do not know when I'll do it. I have no idea if they even knew he ended up at the rescue center. I was told that the insurance company brought him there. I will ask to see if they knew he was there. I found their names on some vet info that came in his file. He was naughty today - really bullying the mare in the paddock. She hauled off and kicked him in the chest and then he got really mad and chased her around. The good thing is...he cantered! Yay! For a good 5-6 strides...twice. This is the first time I have seen him do that. He usually runs in this really odd hopping gait that looks like a dysplastic dog running. That's the only way to explain it.

I've had several "In Reality" grand babies. They are awesome jumpers. I always look for him in their pedigree. Every stinking one I've had has been incredibly athletic jumpers. Tight knees, gorgeous bascule. They all have tons of heart and tons of try. Haven't run across a single one that didn't. I have two good friends that would say the same thing.....

How neat to hear that you've had experience with In Reality jumpers. I really hope I can get him back to that point. He actually jumped SIDEWAYS (well, sort of a sideways - he reared up, twisted, and hopped sideways from a stand) a little over 3 feet. At the rescue center he just trotted up and popped over a 4 ft fence to go visiting. I guess when they saw him do it he didnt look like he was going to jump, he just trotted over to the fence line and "pop" was over. Again, I hope I can get him to that point again... Do you still have In Reality horses?
