Anyone used it? I am interested in using it for my gelding, he's got ulcers from his glorious 7 years at the track. I have yet to discuss with my vet, that's on my list first, before I do anything, of course. I also have heard of Gastic FX. Any tips on getting rid of ulcers, helping with ulcers, ANY info, would be appreciated! Thanks.

I looked back and saw a thread about it. Typically, how long do you put them on it? 30 days? Obviously with my vet recommendation.
My gelding spent 7 years at the track, I know he was buted plenty (!) and treated for ulcers at the track, he was a high stress horse. He's now on turn-out for 6-10 hours a day depending on weather. Lots of grass in fields. He cribs mildly. Is VERY touchy about his belly area being touched and brushed. I ride him 3 times a week, just pleasure riding in fields or the ring, or the beach, or trails.
He gets hay at night and in the day, cup of beet pulp with molasses in the morning and night, 3 pounds of Step 6 to help with weight gain. He gets a can of pellets when he comes in for lunch. He can't be on oats (WAY to hot for that), and he can't be on Step 8, the fat made him break out in hives. Alfalfa seems to break him out in hives as well, although he loves the stuff.
I really want to rid his life of any more track stress, ie. ulcers. I know Gastrogard is expensive, but I am willing to pay if it will make his life better.

I used GastroGard for my previous OTTB. Had him on a 30 day course of it and then repeated another 30 day course of it abour 10 days later. He wouldn't gain weight and had all of the classic ulcer symptoms. I found that providing as much turnout as possible made a HUGE difference in keeping him ulcer free. Einstein is the local expert on ulcers and treatment. Hopefully she will respond for you.

I've never needed Ulcerguard for my own guys, but I've had several students who have been VERY pleased with it. You'll notice a difference in two weeks, but 30-60 days is usally recommended.
Right now, omeprazole (active ingredient) is the ONLY med capable of healing ulcers. Other products are designed to help maintain normal gut pH to reduce the occurance of ulcers. So, Gastroguard first, then one of the other products as a daily supplement if your horse must live in ulcer-friendly conditions (stress from frequent travel/training/showing, limited or no turnout, etc.)
