I'm about halfway through this novel by Norwegian writer Per Petterson. Has anyone else read it? The writing is remarkably spare, but the images are so clear and strong. I'm reading it in snatches at lunch time, but it stays with me all the day.

I've thought about reading this one. I'll put it on my list. Unfortunately, every time I finish an Outlander book, I can't help but start on the next one. In the middle of book 5...

Thea, I know exactly what you mean! I've just started book seven, but I'm trying to read other things at lunch time!

I have not read that one, but the author's name sounds familiar...maybe I have read something else by him?

I read it a couple years ago (or was it last year) and while I loved some of the writing, it left me with a disappointed feeling but I couldn't tell you why....I remember thinking I should have borrowed it rather than buying it.

I'm completely stuck on the Outlander series...are you on Ashes?

Allison, I'm on Echo in the Bone--just finished Ashes last week. I spent the day in Indiana with hubby yesterday and took Stealing Horses along for the times when hubby was in meetings, etc., but people kept talking to me so I couldn't read! Yes, I am able to overcome my antisocial dorkiness when pressed, but I would so have loved to be out in the beautiful sunshine reading my book!

I am able to overcome my antisocial dorkiness when pressed, ;D You do that too ? Hubby used to drag me to his office parties (back when he was working for someone else) and I'd find a quiet place (even if I had to go to the basement for it) and read...

I would if I could get away with it, Claire! I've discovered that I do pretty well if I just keep asking people questions and hoping I never have to remember the answers! Because of my job, I am so overloaded with individual names and details. I always feel a moment of panic when a library patron begins a conversation with. "Remember that book you ordered for me...?" No. I don't remember! Help!!!

Haha! Try remembering the names of your 80 + students....lol
For some reason I have a real hard time remembering the names of people I am introduced to (unless they're horse people!). I chuck it of to the language barrier. Hehehe.

No one is falling for the language barrier excuse with you, Claire! Your English is better than most of ours. I think you'll have to blame your blonde highlights.
But I do know what you mean about all the students. I used to teach Freshman English at a university--3 or 4 sections per quarter. All those names, not to mention those papers...ugh!
