Had the Vet out today, even though yesterday he seemed a bit better, but I couldn't find evidence of the abscess working it's way out. And I was afraid if I cancelled, Zen would just go lame again. Yup, today he was basically fine and the abscess had definitely worked it's way up to the coronet band. Figures huh? Now I just have to keep it soft where it came out so that it keeps draining. Since I had my Vet there, I figured I'd have him watch him canter to the left and see if he could spot any problems with his rear end. He didn't see anything really wrong, though Zen did cross canter for him, but that was in a tight circle. He agreed, if I just keep working him on it, he should get better on his own. Oh, and he paid Zen a compliment worth a trip charge. Zen's got a nice trot and movement in general and my Vet commented on it AND said it wouldn't take much to make him an expensive horse. ;D That's my boy! Though there wouldn't be any point, as I'm not going to sell him anyway.
Though, a little bit later it crossed my mind. uh hum. Was cleaning off the coronet band and going to put stuff on it. Well, I had him in cross ties and the stalls at our barn the horses can reach out of. Everything was going well, when Noah had to stick his nose out at Zen, Zen gave a squeel, jerk his knee up real quick and cracked me a good one on my left cheek. OUCH and yes I have a beautiful lump of a bruise forming there. Joy.
And guess who called tonight, work. So, now I'm going to have to tell everyone what happened. Was figuring at least it will heal before they call me back, then this. Worst, they leave a message asking why I didn't go in today. Um, maybe cause no one called and asked me to? Just maybe? But, they want me to go in tomorrow (mostly to keep me from collecting unemployment, because I'll be anything they lay me off again next week, maybe sooner). Grrr. Ya know, do these people think bills go away, just cause I'm not working? I would bet anything, they are going to be switching me and another guy or two off like this to keep it going as long as they can. Wouldn't mind so much, if they would let me work enough each week to at least equal what unemployment would pay. But they don't. I'll work enough to take me off unemployment. Lay me off, wait a week (can't collect for the first week and working resets the clock, don't you know) Then have me come back. Grrrr. The only good thing is, by mid April things pick up and I work steady again, it's just getting through this spot that can be tough.
Anyway, at least Zen is getting better.
