I'm currently rereading A Tale of Two Cities as I read it over 20 years ago and couldn't remember much except Madame Defarge! lol I'm really enjoying it so far though. TONS of forshadowing and all. Thanks to Ad and Bara for getting me back to 'basics'! lol

You, know, I haven't read that since grad school which was...ohmygoodness...over 20 years ago! But I know what you mean about going back to the classics. I keep Middlemarch on my bedside table and I'm rereading parts of it a little bit at a time. I like the romantic poets every spring, too. But Dickens is the master, eh? I have told you about my maniacal professor who had us read 7 Dickens novels in a 10-week quarter? We each had to write two papers and lead one class discussion of one of the novels. It's all a blur now, but I think my papers were on Nicholas Nickleby and Bleak House.

I should go back and read A Tale of Two Cities again. I only remember a guillotine scene and a general impression of having liked the book. We were just talking about Great Expectations at work and I want to go back and reread that as well.
I like to go back to Jane Austen books. They're a little more frivolous so better for everyday use for me. I love Dickens but it always seems like such an undertaking to read a Dickens book. It takes a bit more of my mental energy.

I had just finished Ivanhoe and LOVED that book. Nothing like the stupid movies at all. I've red the Jane Austen books within the last 5 years and they were ok. I'm not into all the lovely dovey girly stuff lol.
I'm hoping to read To Kill a Mockingbird, next.

Another good one. In the case of Mockingbird, I don't mind the movie at all. Gregory Peck....ooh aahhh!

Never heard of it Skye, but I'm gonna look for it as soon as I get done with the Tale of Two Cities. I haven't read Roots but for some reason they don't have the electronic version of that book in B& N. . What's the story about?

It's a classic from the time of Dickens by Richard Dana. It is from the original diaries of a sailor about his life at sea. I have a original copy.... I love old books.
