I do sit-ups and crunches 3 times a week, but I am wondering if there is some sort of core/stomach exercises that help to build up your core specific to riding. Think abs of steel!

What about some kind of pilates?

Not sure if it specific to riding, but there are some really good balance ball exercises. You can even find some short videos online if you search for advanced balance ball.

loooove my Pilates! Of course, I have chronic lower back pain (I blame it on the kiddos - ages almost 4yrs and 18 mos) if I don't do it, but it helps a TON.....

Ditto on the Pilates and Yoga, too! I have lower back problems and as long as I do some sort of core exercises every week (Ashtanga Yoga or Pilates), I'm fine (i.e, I can sit the trot and canter for long periods without paying for it for months afterwards).
Better to start in a class because it's easy to do it the wrong way and hurt yourself.
