I just finished this book by Jeanette Walls (author of The Glass Castle) and I have to recommend it to you all. It is the story of Jeanette's larger-than-life grandmother, and what a life she had! It takes place in the early part of the 20th century and recounts her experiences growing up in the southwest, where she managed the family ranch from an early age. Many more adventures followed, including leaving the farm at age 15 and riding her horse, Patches, 500 miles to Arizona to take a teaching job, alone. I could not put it down...after every tale I just had to see what she did next! I think you guys will love it.

Can you send it to me? ? I would if I could, but I checked it out from the library and I don't think they'd appreciate that! Your library might have it though
