We let our 6 year old German Shepherd Deuce go yesterday. He had a very aggressive cancer, but we were blessed enough to have him for almost 6 months post diagnosis. My vet was very surprised he was with us that long after getting the CSU pathology report. We got him at 5 months old. He was living in an apartment in a crate with almost no exercise. He was a dog that made me laugh every day. I always thought of German Shepherds as regal and noble (our first one was that very definition) but Deuce was a big goofball. He lived life with incredible joy. I decided last week that his joy was fading fast but DH was not yet ready to let go. Yesterday morning he threw the frisbee for Deuce. Deuce tried to go get it, but didn't have the strength. DH finally knew that we needed to do this for him. Our vet came to the house and he slipped away so very peacefully. I am happy for Deuce that he's no longer a prisoner in his body, but is whole and joyful again. I'll miss you more than you know Deucy Do-do.

RIP Deuce. I'm so sorry Kelly. I'd wondered how he was doing. I'm glad you were able to spend some quality months with him before he needed to pass over the rainbow. Hugs...
