Hi all,
I am writing to request your assistance with a fundraiser for a little boy who has been very sick, Adam Wolcz. He is the child of my friends and neighbors, Chris and Rentata Wolcz, who live in Saratoga Springs, NY. Health insurance does not cover all of the healthcare and incidental needs from his condition, surgery and liver transplant.
Adam was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia when he was only 3 months old. He required a liver transplant at 5 months of age in January 2010 performed at Children’s Hospital in Boston. He will forever need medical assistance and specialized prescription drugs to keep his body from rejecting his new liver. For this reason, friends and families members have embarked on a fundraising effort to help with some of these expenses. We recognize that everyone has expenses and we are in a tough economic climate right now. If you are able to support this cause in any way, it would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be made directly at his website at www.AdamWolczFund.org and any amount is appreciated ($5, $10, $15, $25 or more). Donations are also accepted directly to the family. Their address is on the website, or you can PM me directly.
Even if you aren’t able to make a financial contribution, you can support Adam in another way. Please forward this message on to five of your friends, or even post it on your facebook. If we are able to spread the word, then hopefully we will increase the likelihood of collecting more for the medical expenses and medications.
Thank you so much for your friendship!
sincerely
maria
About Biliary Atresia:
Biliary Atresia is a serious but rare disease of the liver that affects newborn infants. The cause of Biliary Atresia is not known, and treatments are only partially successful. The liver damage incurred from Biliary Atresia is caused by injury and loss (Artesia) of the bile ducts that are responsible for draining bile from the liver. Bile is made by the liver and passes through the bile ducts and into the intestines where it helps digest food, fats, and cholesterol. The loss of bile ducts causes bile to remain in the liver. When bile builds up it can damage the liver, causing scarring and loss of liver tissue. Eventually the liver will not be able to work properly and cirrhosis will occur. Once the liver fails, a liver transplant becomes necessary.
