My gelding used to get massages when he was at the track and I was told that there is a spot at the base of his ear, a pressure point (?) that he enjoyed having pressed. Has anyone heard of this? Apparently he really enjoyed it, but I've tried to find it and he just goes "ahh" and flings his head away wondering what in the world I am doing!!!

I am trying to come up with ideas to make him feel better when he comes back from his surgery next week (the date is set for Wednesday), and he will be on stall rest and be in a bit of pain, and I am going to assume he will also be a bit mad at me for the whole thing. Just wanting to have some ideas to make him feel better. I don't know the masseuse's phone number, otherwise I'd call her.

maybe just a good ear scratch to start off with until you find what he likes? i know al loooooves when i take my gloves off and do small scratches around the base of his ear, up to the tip, and partly inside
good luck with his recovery next week

It's hard to tell with each horse, but experimenting helps find the "it" spot... some of mine HATE having their ears even touched, but both Teddy (TB) and Twister (Welsh pony) love having the base of their ears massaged, and the inner ear kind of rubbed, all the way from the inside to the tip. They BEG for me to do it. Valley the morgan and Meko the appy both disdain having their ears messed with!

My Candy loves to have her ears rubbed inside and out. I use just my thumb and index finger to gently rub her ears. At the base of her ears I gently use my finger tips to scratch there.

I think the T touch.. or Tellington touch advocates gently pulling your hand from base to the tip with a smooth gentle but firm touch..

Sounds like any TLC will be appreciated. My mare loves having her ears rubbed, and the areas right above and behind her ears are favorites, too. Don't forget to take apples and cookies!
