My mare Flyte and I are making our over fences debut in two weeks I set up a line of two fences with 60' in between; that was no problem. I can't recall what the distance is between fences for an in and out. Is it 12'?

Hi Lisann
For a standard distance one stride you would use 24'.
Typically indoors you will need a closer stride--21' or so.
When schooling gymnastics I use 9' for a trotting in distance on bounces and increase it to 10' through the line.
To sharpen up the horses and get them quick Ian Stark sets a line of
_______ (vertical)
(10 feet) _______ (Vertical)
(10 feet) _______ (Vertical) (10 feet) _______ (Vertical)
(10 feet) _______ _______ (oxer)
He builds the one strides first (1st, 3rd, 5th), keeps it low at about 2'6", then adds the (2nd, 4th) to make bounces, then drops the bounce poles on the ground & starts making the one strides big (how big depends on the training level).
Then we go jump tough lines and then courses. After a school with him any course at a show seems easy!
