Ok, I know a few of you were/are using this and I was wondering where you got your Fish oil and also how much you were feeding? I'm trying different supps bc Katy seems to have issues with her hocks. Having the vet come out this week to take xrays and see if something is going on or if it's even in the hock. Ugh I wish horses could talk. I have her on one oral supplement but I'm not seeing much if any improvement on it so I thought I'd give the fish oil a try.
Thanks!

I think Wellpride is one of the best fish oil supplements. It's expensive, about $50-60 a month but I've heard good things about it. I think there are 2 different types of omega 3's. EPA and DHA. One of them the body has to convert before it can be used and I believe the fish oil is the one the body doesn't have to convert. Fish oil is DHA I believe. Not sure...I will see if I can look it up.
I think Goalie was giving the capsules to Billy for a while but stopped because it didn't seem to help him. I can't remember how much she was giving him.

I saw the subject line and was all ready to confess that I take fish oil myself, despite having teased my husband about it for years. To my dismay, it actually seems to help lower cholesterol. Why are we giving it to horses???

To help with arthritis. I know Goalie was giving it to two of her horses. One of them it didn't seem to work on, but the other I think it was for awhile, but not sure if it has stopped or what the outcome was!

Well I give it to my doggie! I originally gave him the oil ( liquid, squirted onto his food) to improve his coat and help with dandruff and hot spots, but it DOES also seem to help with his energy and mobility. He's a young dog, but always has been kind of slow moving and lethargic - kind of typical with a labrador. But I see a definite difference on the salmon oil. And his coat is SO shiny and soft and gorgeous!

nhrexracers.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=eagle&action=display&thread=25952&page=1Here's the first thread that we all discussed fish oil on. Yes I am still giving it to Eagle as I am really happy with how he is moving since we started this trial. Billy went through a major hissy fit after he tasted one and it took forever to get him to eat his mashes again without giving it the evil eye. LOL I would love to try Goal on it but know better. He can tell that you have messed with his mash at long range distance.

Well, I will expect to be glossier and more nimble in 2010. Off to gulp two capsules now!
