Almost two years ago, I decided to try Curves. The very first day that I was there, I hurt my shoulder on one of the machines. (You know, Curves' version of the Mark Eden Bust Developer! ) It still hurts! I've tried: Family doc who prescribed muscle relaxants. No help, really. (Do doctors ONLY hand out pills these days?! ) Physical therapist who gave me lots of exercises to do. Seemed helpful at the time, but when you pay that much you really want it to be helpful, so sometimes you just think it is. And actually, I think we solved part of the problem. I can reach for something on a high shelf without pain now. Massage therapist who really makes it feel better at least for a while, and who helped me figure out what postures at work were making it worse. But it's still not right. I can't reach behind myself for zippers and snaps. I can't windmill that arm behind me when I'm doing yoga warm ups. The windmill isn't important in and of itself, but think how many times a day you need that kind of mobility, especially if you have horses, dogs, and bra straps! I'm afraid the next step is to ask my doctor to look more closely--whatever kind of imaging stuff they use for this. And I'm also afraid that she'll talk about a surgical option. I don't wanna! So, you...Exracers! Got any ideas that don't involve lasers or scalpels?

Go to the doctor! I tore my rotator cuff and about to have surgery. I tried waiting and did more damage galloping (big surprise ) and now might need anchors and might not be able to just have the scope. Muscle relaxers didn't help mine, not PT, which I tried everything first, surgery would be the last option but if you need it, you need it. Sorry. I would see your doctor when you can, seems like you did all the right steps up to now and if it isn't getting better, you need to see what else can be done.

I agree with Einstein, go see your doctor. Your shoulder wont get better on its own and it sounds like you've done what you can to improve. Could be you have a bone spur and that will only cause more serious damage the longer you wait. Maybe you just need a shot of cortisone and you will be all better. Whatever is causing the pain, you have inflammation in there and inflammation causes more damage. The longer you wait, the worse it will be and you are suffering needlessly. I think I was out of work for 7 days after my shoulder surgery. I farted around for over a year before getting it fixed. I regret waiting so long.

Thanks! I think you are right, and I need to quit whining and do something about it. Now my excuse will be that I hate incurring a big expense at the beginning of the year. Of course, I'll take care of my deductible in one fell swoop! I'll call tomorrow and ask for an appointment. But if one person in that office uses the phrase, "Well, as we get older...." I will make what my daughter calls "bi#ch face." She says I'm very good at it.

Ad, I find the hardest thing about it is how easily I've learned to adapt to not using my shoulder. So it hurts, it's annoying, I can't do a whole lot, but in my mind, it seems manageable. To go to surgery, I know that's one big ball of pain and so I keep down playing it and trying to make it less then it is. Only thing that ended up getting me is injuring it worse, and now I may need a more involved surgery.
I hope it's nothing too serious, but I'd get it looked at now, or sooner then later, just to be sure.

Ack, I hope you won't need surgery! My dad hurt his shoulder a couple years ago when his (big, strong) dog took off on the leash and jarred his arm and almost flung him right to the ground (dad is 78!). He tore a ligament or a tendon? I forget, but it wasn't his rotator cuff, so no surgery, it just took a verrry long time to heal, and he kept re-injuring it as soon as it felt a little better... Let us know what the Doc says!

I'll call today, I promise. Niaru, your dad's injury sounds painful and I can just see how it happened. Lucy did that to me once, and she only weighed about 40 pounds. Of course she was trying to break my left shoulder. Now that I think of it, horses have probably wrecked my right shoulder, and it's the one that hurts now!

I'm on Week 4 of recuperating from my shoulder surgery. According to the surgeon, the right shoulder was a LOT worse than the left shoulder last year. I'm finally "allowed" to lift my arm up overhead, which I'm still struggling to do, but each day something becomes easier for me. Fastening bras, however, is done like my Grammy: hook it at my belly button then swing it around and pull it up. Not fun, but still gets the job done in the end. I actually tried for a year to do therapy and stretching on this shoulder so I wouldn't have to go through surgery again. In the end, maybe it was all the waiting that allowed it to become worse. Now I have ligaments permanently cauterized out and the doctor telling me that I may never regain my full range of motion. Guess I shoulda been proactive a year ago. Oh well..... As long as I can still ride and work Linc, I'm happy. If I can never do a push-up again, I guess I'll live with it Good luck with your shoulder!!! Be as proactive as you can, and if they tell you a scalpel is in the forecast, try not to put it off for too long.
