I'm reading Gail Collins' new book, When Everything Changed: The Amazing Journey of American Women from 1960 to the Present.
Collins is a journalist, so this is very readable nonfiction. And it's interesting to me because I was born in '56, so this is history in my lifetime. It's amazing to me to be reminded of the way things have changed in only 50 years. Some of Collins' generalizations don't square perfectly with my own experience, but the books is loaded with examples of the way women's lives were so very different in the not-so-distant past.
Exracers who are about my age will remember a lot of this, younger folks will find some of it amazing. I have a hunch that women who have horses tend to be a fairly sassy lot, so we may be an appreciative audience for stories about other women who faced crazy hurdles but jumped over or plowed through them!
