There is a woman in Virginian who has a steer that she can ride. She wants to find him a new home. I'm not sure that he's safe from slaughter. She has him listed on one of the craigs lists, but I can get more information and put you in contact with the owner. He seems quite large and is very pretty. She shows pictures of someone riding him with a saddle.

Hahahaha, there would be NO way I could convince Dusty to let me have a steer, but you know I'd do it in a heartbeat if I could. And a donkey too!

Yeah, and this one might not try to kill you, M!! LOL. I'm not sure it would be safe at M's, either...isn't Dusty from a long line of cattle farmers?

Well, of course I thought about einstein! lol But this guy is really tame and sweet apparently. It appears that he's huge though but shouldn't take up too much pasture.

The beautiful 2700 pound brown swiss steer found a home. I'm happy for him. This whole thing of keeping an animal for a pet for so many years and then having it slaughtered is really shocking to me. Another person on the thread said that is what she did when she didn't want hers any more - after many years. I know the owner of this one didn't want to do that, but it seemed that it wasn't ruled out. Anyway - he's going to live at a rescue. They've ridden him a lot I guess.

My aunt has two HUMONGOUS holstein steers that they keep as pets. They are super sweet and a lot of fun to have around Riding cows is kinda fun! That's how my parents decided that horses weren't a phase...when my sis and I trained our cows to ride and pull things around ;D YAY for this steer getting a good home! Swissies are so cute!

Oh Amy, they are called ranchers, not farmers! I said that once, bad, bad, bad ;D
I have no issue with eating meat, I'm not a vegetarian, but I too would not be able to keep a pig or cow like that, and then do the deed. I don't know why I have a line in the sand, but for me, I just do. I have no issue with people who do, but it's why I can't have pigs, even though I'd love to raise one!
I am so happy he has a happy ending! I bet he rides a heck of a lot better then the roping steer I rode!

I too love happy endings. My cousin and I used to ride a steer down the road when we were kids. It was pretty fun. I can't imagine slaughtering a pet because you get sick of it.
