We're getting a new horse and we need a new saddle I'm looking for a dark colored western saddle that will fit an Arabian (synthetic would be best for Jocelyn but leather would be fine too). Nothing over $400....less would be good . please email me if you have something to sell! Thanks tracyhutchins6_at_gmail.com

Tracy, are you sure you want a 15" western saddle for Jocelyn? How big is she? That would be a pretty large adult saddle. I have a child's western Fabtron (synth/leather) saddle that I need to sell because Caroline has outgrown it ( she is now 5'9") The seat still fits her ( 14") but the stirrups are now too short at their longest setting. It fits Arabians because it was Bassie's saddle. She recently rode in it on her Morgan pony and it fits him perfectly - it's semi-quarterhorse bars. ANYWAY, it is basically brand new. It has had maybe four rides (!!! Caroline thought she'd ride western, but when Bassie went lame, she never did...) It is a light and very well made saddle. Over $400 new. But I'll cut YOU a great deal if you'd like to try it. Here it is:

Lookit this one Tracy - in Columbus, though...too bad. And too expensive, but this one is worth this price, actually. columbus.craigslist.org/grd/1305900616.htmlThe perfect, dark colored arabian western saddle... NICE.

Hi smay - Actually we're going to get a saddle to fit me to start and then we'll decide if she wants to go western or not (she complained the other day that the western saddle felt "strange") But I want a western for trail riding - I'll ride this horse too - probably more this year than Joc will since I'll be home more this fall. I have a dressage saddle that fits her and Joc likes that although it is too big. I was told by my farrier that I would use a 15"...considering I know nothing about western I took that as good enough for me *blush*. Jocelyn is not as skinny as Miss Caroline - she's not a big child though (she can wear a size 1 in juniors - she's almost 5 feet). My farrier said she'd use a 14" for a long time. I love the saddle you have...but I am 5'6", 135#...wonder if it would fit me? It would surely fit Joc. PM me with a price anyway please ....I suppose I could use my dressage saddle for trail rides. That dark saddle would be gorgeous on the new white horse .

Naw, the Fabtron wouldn't fit ya Tracy - it doesn't fit me either. It's P.E.R.F.E.C.T for a kid though. It's light and easy to clean and all that and it has a nice suede seat and super comfy. You might look around for an adult size one because they are well made, and probably one of the only synthetics that gets good remarks from trail riders....
and OMG, your new Arab is a BEAUT! I loff him... he looks JUST like my favorite horse of all time and now dearly departed Bassie..only white! I'm think this will be a perfect child's horse, as Bassie was. Gentle, sweet, great with kids and very appreciative of every little thing you do for them. That's what I think most Arabs are like.
Yah, that fancy Circle Y arab saddle is nice, but I guarantee it is probably very heavy. Our friends had one and it was gorgeous but SO heavy and stiff and hard!

Bummer that it won't fit me Smay...it looks quite comfy. I'll look for another Fabtron (I'd never heard of it before so thank you for the lo-down!).
This little Arab is a dream (like your Bassie). She's a 12 year old 15h perfect angel. When I test drove her we got ito a hornets nest and we were being attacked all over (I was sung 4 times and she got it even worse). I started to freak out a bit but all that mare did was stomp her feet and wiggle a little.. Joc is a very timid rider...I mean SUPER timid....she did really well on this mare, that she is renaming "Samantha" after Samantha Stevens (Bewitched) - her favorite "star". I hope this gets her over her fear of trotting...this mare has a smooth trot...I loved it.
She does have a couple of small melanomas though - but we'll have the vet out to either cut them or freeze them and just keep diligent on any new ones.
Anyway...I forgot to say she's not here yet - won't be until next week after I finish my finals. I want to have fun when she gets here!

If you're interested in a Circle Y you can look for one with the flexible tree. They're super nice saddles. Even the ones with the heavier trees aren't that bad. Every now and then I throw mine up on my 16.3/17hh guy or my mom's 16/16.1hh mare and I'm 5'2. They're heavier then english saddles, but still not that bad.
The Circle Y in the picture is older, they do last forever. You'd need to look into one newer than that to find the lighter tree. The older Circle Y's are heavier even then mine, with the non flex tree. The prices aren't too bad either. I bought one like new for $400, actually sold it for more on Ebay. If you can get the seriel number off one on Ebay, it'll give you all the info like style, tree size, seat size, etc. You used to be able to call them up and they'd translate for you.

Thanks Lis, thats a huge help! I've seen a lot of them for sale but just had no clue.
I'm going to head up to a saddle shop not too far from here later this week - they have a lot of saddle (hundreds actually). It's hard when you know NOTHING about western saddles. They're super friendly at this place.

Tracy, the saddle I brought out there to try Hot Shot was a 15", if you can remember how that felt when you rode in it.
I think a 15" is a good size for you. 16" is more common in western saddles but that would be too large. DD also rode in my 15" when she took lessons.
