have this problem?? She is an obses vertically challneged arab who jumps EVERYTHING. I mean...everything. Not when I'm on her (which I've only been a smattering of times). She jups our plank fencing, she jumps our high tensile..Today she leaped five strands of barbed wire (yes, they're being replaced) and got into the nighbors land (hundreds of acres filled with belgian horses).
What to do She could not care less about hot wire. Leaps it, bites it, plows through it. Nut. I think she's bored out of her mind. SO...on a positive note, I trudged down the half mile drive with helmet in hand and I caught her (after much frisking and running (her not me) and Belgians charging me in a line...an odd appearance even though I know they're gentle) and then I led her back OVER the fence. I had the reins of the bridle I took down over her neck. I crossed the fence andturned to look at her and she stood up on her hind legs and popped voer. Nuts....
Anyway, I figured she was so bored that I got on. Took forever b/c I'm fatter and older than I used to be so I had to find just the right spot to get on bareback. Then we rode around in the snow for about half an hour. I really tried to put no pressure on her mouth. She was WONDERFUL! We went through the woods a little, and around the pasture. She was so light in the mouth but so responsive to voice etc.
The real accomplishment is that I didn't panic before I did it. I din't call people to tell them I'd be riding. I didn't stress about not having a cell phone with me. I just did it! Its been such a long, long time and it felt so DARNED good!!
