Received this alert- this horse needs help ASAP. Self explantory. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Folks, I received a call today from someone whose husband is a trader that routinely sells horses to Joe Simon's kill auction in MN. She begged her husband not to take this kind older Thoroughbred to sell to slaughter and now has only a few days to place him before she will have no other choice but than to let her husband take the horse to auction. The woman has been working hard to convince her husband that slaughter is wrong, so it is essential that we do what we can to help her place this horse in order to prove our point that NO horse is unwanted! The horse's name is The Damascus Kid. He is a 23 yr old, chestnut, TB gelding. He appears to perhaps have a hind-end lameness issue and may only be useful for light riding or as a pasture pet. He is located in Wadsworth, IL. We do not currently have the space or the financial resources here at the ILEHC to take on any additional horses. If you have room in your heart and barn for the "Kid", please let me know. This is urgent, and we must act fast if we are to be able to stop this horse from being sent to slaughter in Canada! Please crosspost far and wide! Thanks all, Gail Vacca, President Illinois Equine Humane Center, NFP 19501 West Ballou Road Wilmington, IL 60481 Tel:815-476-5257 Fax: 815-366-8208 Email: info@ilehc.org Website: www.ilehc.org/

News from Gail: ------------------------------------------------------------------ Hi everyone, I have terrific news to share..a positively wonderful adoptive home has been found for the Kid. I absolutely could not have wished for a better home for Kid and believe me when I tell you that this is indeed a fairytale ending! Kid will be residing at the beautiful farm of Eric S. just outside of Bloomington, IN. Kid will have several acres of wonderful pasture to graze and an extra huge stall in a beautiful barn in which to take shelter. Kid will be sharing his days with Eric's two beautiful mares who Im certain he will find to be perfectly irresistable! Talk about heaven on earth... I can hardly wait to see the expression on Kid's face when he sets eyes on his new digs complete with his 2 new girlfriends! Kid is one very lucky horse indeed! That said, Kid will have to wait a few weeks before making his way to IN, as Eric will be leaving for vacation and wont return until late the first week of June. In the meantime, Kid will be coming here to the ILEHC for safe keeping until Eric's return. Not to worry..I'll send pics of Kid both when he arrives here and then later when he gets to his new home with Eric. I want to thank each and every one of you for spreading the word about Kid and for keeping this sweet boy in your thoughts and prayers. I would also like to thank the many folks from all across the country who offered refuge to the Kid. I trust that everyone will agree that rehoming this boy locally was in his best interest. My special thanks to Doreen K. for sharing news of Kid's plight with Eric, and of course to Eric himself for finding room in his life and heart for the Kid! Thanks again to all!! Thanks nybabyz. Thought I'd also share my new fella. He came out of the killpen last week. smg.photobucket.com/albums/v40/marlifarm/TBGeldingMay09/Not a thing wrong with him (tattooed but unraced). Spoke to his former owner who was horrified to learn where he ended up, and one day away from shipping to slaughter. His registered name is Hilltopper Mac. Today is his birthday, he's just 4 y/o. Unfortunately, he's suffering the onset of strangles but is coping with the effects pretty well. Poor fella. The pictures don't do him justice, he's truly stunning in real life and very well put together.

Hi Marli, guess I should pop into this thread more often. Then again, I have more horses then I should have already. I believe we met at the Illinois Horse Fair. Good to see you found a home for one of the Damascus grandkids. There's a few of us here that have an affinity for the Damascus horses. Anyway, I can't see the other picture either. The link is sending us to your sign in page.
