I purchased this mare last summer to breed to our black and white paint stallion but he decided that breeding mares was not on his list of "to do's" that season! I figured I would just keep her to breed to my TB colt in the future but with the economy as it is and paying $15 for a bale of hay out here . . . . . you know the story. "Nefis" has an extremely soft mouth and is sound. She did run a few times in AZ but won nothing and was promptly put out with some others to starve to death. The people I got her from had rescued her from that situation when she was 5 and didn't do a whole lot with her but take good care of her. They did have a girl riding her dressage for a little while apparently but the mare has never been shown and has limited trail riding experience. I have only ridden her in the arena, she has a really nice headset, knows her leads etc. I have other horses that I am concentrating on and never really intended on showing her, only breeding her due to her pedigree. I have a Seattle Slew/Secretariat colt that I dreamed of eventually breeding to her but right now another mouth to feed is just too much to think about. Her pedigree can be seen here: www.pedigreequery.com/taker+tole ( I just previewed this link and for some reason it's leaving off the ending part. Her reg name is Taker Tole, you can type that name into the search query if the link doesn't work right.
I would like to get $1000 for her. We are located in Benson, AZ. She ties, loads, is good with her feet. When I got her she had on 00 size shoes!!! Ugggh! I pulled those right off and she has been barefoot since. She has nice solid feet with actual heel! She is a nice mover, not a 10+, but very nice. I have two Slew grandsons that put most warmbloods to shame with their movement so I'm probably being a little harder on her than I should but those boys can really move!
I did let a friend of mine take her for her husband to ride a few weeks ago, big mistake. It seemed like a good deal, they could ride her and feed her while my colt matures. I told them that for all I knew she had never been out on the trails and they should do a lot of arena and round pen work before trail riding her. So, they immediately saddled her up and took her out in the dry wash with their other horse who is exceedingly ill-mannered (bucks and bolts!) Going up a hill the husband "took a strong hold" of her because she was jigging and pulled her over sideways. I had told them in no uncertain terms that this mare has a mouth like melted butter and to NOT pull on her face. Long story short, I went and brought her back home and mentioned to them that since the mare had not been out on the trails that she most likely had NEVER been ridden up a hill!!! I thought my friend knew better than that, that friendship took a bad beating over this.
Here are some pics of her when I first brought her home. To me she looks a whole lot like Mr P. She lost some weight while at my friends house because they put her out in a dry lot all alone. She likes to have company, I have 28 at my house so going from that to solitary confinement made her nervous and she ran the fenceline all day and wore off all her extra fat! I'm feeding her up right now and she is very quiet and content with her neighbors now! I can get new pics of her if anyone is interested.
