It's a new year, y'all!! I've already got 3 half marathons for which I'm training!! Atlanta ING 1/2 - March 29 Indianapolis Mini Marathon (kick-off to the Indy 500) - May 2 Journey's 1/2 in Eagle River, WI - May 9 I guess I figure if I post here then it's just ONE more reason to stick with my training. It's easier to let only myself down (especially in these single-digit temperatures!!), so by telling y'all then it's more motivation for me to keep it up! Anyone near Atlanta and wanna run?? How about Wisconsin? And if anyone is interested in any type of running training schedule/guide, I'm more than happy to send you one!

Lisa, do you have a swimming pool available to use?? You can do all sorts of workouts in water that alleviate knee pain and actually help strengthen the muscles surrounding weak joints. I can help you out with what to do if you have that option!

I will, but not until after my surgery in march. I just wanted to stregthen a bit before surgery. I have been doing some walking, but im usually lame for a day or 2 after. I really like working out in water, esp the deep end. Are there any other exercises like leg lifts or something than will help stregthen muscle? I going to try my eliptical tonight, hopefully it will not be as jarring as walking, or jogging.

Elliptical is much better on the joints as far as jarring goes. Stationary bikes are awesome too! Basic squats will help your quads/glutes/hamstrings. Calf raises will then get both of the calf muscles (duh ). You can always PM me too if you want any other suggestions. ~sari

I have set my goal to do the Columbus marathon in October!! Although I will be just walking. That will give me time to recover from surgery, and to get into shape.

I want to do at least a half marathon this year but I'm not sure where I'll find the time to train. I'll probably do Frederick Half Marathon in May.

You guys are inspiring! And here I am thinking of dropping my Curves membership. (Exercising my penny-pinching muscles!) Maybe I should reconsider.
