Oz has a trace clip or I'd just jank the stupid blankets off. The shoulder guard is really tight and I think it's been part of the problem. I think the blankets are moving the shoulder guard on his shoulder. He's lost a lot hair I'm worried. I went blanket shopping today and it's slim pickings. Plus, with the trace clip I need a hood. Akkk! Suggestions? I think I'll just the shoulder guard off and hope the blanket doesn't hurt his half bald shoulder. I have a turnout blanket on as the under layer and then topped it with what was supposed to be a heavy blanket, but isn't very heavy -thus I layered. I've got a nice fleece sheet, but with him having access to outdoors all he wants and his stall is not totally enclosed I'm worried the fleece will just wick water. The turnout sheet with shoulder guard was just fine. It's when I added the second layer that put too much pressure on his shoulders. Suggestions? Thanks!

Show sheen the poo out of him. Wyatt used to get rubs but Sealy never has. I tried the shoulder gaurd on him and it didn't help. So I show sheened him until he was super slick. If you have a good blanket repair person available to you, you could have them sew in some satin to the insides of the shoulders on the blanket as well.

Thanks. I'll make him nice and slick and see how that goes. Not sure about a blanket place here. I might be able to duct tape some satin in. I know my machine won't sew through the heavy material.
Oh wait. Maybe duct tape would come off the blanket and on to him.

I have had a lot of luck with Amigo's. He was in one all last winter and this winter and not a rub to be seen. I also don't like to layer unless it's with a closed front fleece liner or something when it gets super cold, so he has a blanket of each weight and they just get changed when needed. I know it's more expensive that way, but you avoid problems with liners shifting and such.

He's got a sleezy shoulder guard, but it doesn't seem to have helped. It seems to have just rubbed his hair off instead .

Check to make sure the shoulders of his rug aren't binding too much across the withers and you can try to fabric glue some nylon to line the shoulders and fleece to raise the withers so things don't bind so much... you kind of have to "lift" the blanket away from the neck so it doesn't bind their shoulders with each step or each time they lower their neck.. it's hard! Plus the only liner that I like is a nylon, quilted, closed front liner that I have used on Teddy when layering..he's the only one that gets layered... and he has never had rubs... lemme see if I can find a pic on line... Ok here's the thing I use - very slippery! Not really as bulky as it appears on this photo either.. www.sstack.com/shopping/product/anotherView.jsp?img=local/products/family_viewlarger/13031.jpg&iProductID=2640

Yup, Schneider's blankets fit VERY well, and that Adjusta Fit stuff works to pull the blanket off their shoulder blades...

Thanks for the link on Schneiders. Hopefully pulling off the shoulder guard, spraying on the Showsheen and adjusting his blankets will do it. I think getting a bigger blanket would help too. The shoulder gussets on these would be better if they were closer to his chest. It's just not made for him. He doesn't have big withers to bind the blanket, but does have that big Morgan shoulder/neck that fills it out.

Jag had rubs last year, and I learned (too late) that it was due to the blankets being too large. We had eyeballed him and bought 78's. I measured him this fall, and he's a 76. I got him the Storm Shield from Scheiders (mid weight) and got him a Weathabeeta Orican for his heavy. He had a mid-weight Orican last year that rubbed - there are no rubs this year, now that I have the correct fit. I do have to say that I LOVE the Scheiders' blanket. Love the adjustafit neck, love love the high gussets that accomodate his shoulder. Suggest you start by re-measuring him, and double checking that size!

I think he is a 76 also. Time to have someone hold him and seriously measure. I took the shoulder guard off and that seems to have helped. The weather has warmed up too so he is only wearing the one blanket and that's better also. I'm also spraying him with the Show Sheen. Actually, maybe I should also spray a little on the blanket itself. Glad you got it figured out for Jag

I used showsheen, and a shoulder guard last winter with limited success. What really helped was this sleazy full sheet from Country Supply: www.horse.com/Lycra-Full-Sheet-BFA06.htmlI also use it as an underlayer - Jag has his black satin jammies on under his heavyweight right now! (it's -12 today!)
