Last night, December 20, 2008 in the 8th race at Los Alamitos, jockey Sam Thompson was riding a first time starter QH filly. After the race, on the gallop out Sam almost had this filly pulled up into a jog when she broke down, and rolled over Sam. Sam laid lifeless on the racetrack as our ambulance crew put him in the stretcher, he was revived on the way to the hospital. Once in the hospital he coded again on the CT table and was revived a second time. He crushed C2 bones in his neck and was rushed into surgery to stabilized his neck. He now lays in the ICU on life support in a comma with little chance of survival! He is such a great charter with always a positive attitude and a fantastic jockey who was careful of what horses he rode. Please say a prayer for him tonight! I just hope to dear god he pulls thorough!!!

12/22/08 Sam had an MRI done today. I spoke to the radiologist and he indicated he didn't see any brain damage, however because of the C2 fracture, he has blood and fluid in his spinal cord. He told me if they can stabilize the spinal cord and keep the fluid and blood to a minimal, then he had a chance to recover. They just need to keep him stabilized, which will include making sure he is still in a coma so he doesn't move. So all in all he is not out of the wood, however this does bring some hope into the situation! Keep on praying for him!!!!!

Well, his heart is begining to fail. I guess his body is having a hard time adjusting to this type of injury and now they don't think he will live thorough the night. Will keep you updated as time goes on.
