We have a bunny that lives in our barn. He has free run of the barn and is pretty good about the horses. For some odd reason he has decided that Cam's stall is the best place to live. He hangs out with Cam at night and if I forget to lock him out he is in there all day too. Now my question, will bunny dropping and urine make Cam sick?

We've had barn bunnies in the with the horses with no problems. I suspect they used the stalls as litter boxes. They also got to know the sound of feeding time and would come from all over to gobble up any dropped oats. They were very, very cute.

I'm sure horses who live outside come in contact with bunny pee and poo
btw, cam is chuckling....he likes his little bunny friend

I bet Cam is enjoying the company! I wouldn't worry about the bunny poo.
Now, you simply MUST get some pictures of this to share with us!

LoL thank you guys! I can rest easy now He really does seem to like that bunny, I always miss it but the other boarders tell me that he will be in his stall trying to eat the hay that Stew *the bunny* is sitting on. Or he will nuzzle in the poor bunny's fur I'm glad he has a friend, I feel bad because he is on individual turnout and has no one to hang out with.

oooh i would worry about bun bun getting stepped on ? ? Yep, we lost some that way. One of the adults broke a foot and then one of the other adults took an entire litter into the stall once they could hop around and in one day all four were dead. VERY sad. Our barn bunnies didn't last very long.

We had a rabbit like that, never had any health issues w/ the horses regarding the rabbit. Sadly, though, it got stepped on . It was in a stall w/a horsey friend, and the horse got nervous/spooked at something, and that was the end of Bun Bun.

Well, I hope "Stew" (LOL!) doesn't get stepped on but that is just TOO CUTE about them being such good buddies like that!!

Still waiting for photos! Firends who used to have three horses at their place laughed because each horse had his own pet cat that made a nest in the straw and hung out in the preferred stall. No stepping on cats, but maybe they are just better at moving quickly.

Adcooper - My first horse quite liked cats, but did not like dogs. (Well, badly behaved dogs). She would chase them out of her pasture, teeth snapping - kick at them in mid-stride if we were riding and they got too close, etc. Cats, though - they could rub around her legs, she would watch where she stepped, and always seemed pleased when they were around. A barn cat even had her kittens in her feed trough.
