Two nights ago, when I took Jag's blanket off, he had a swelling about the size of my palm on his shoulder. It was warm and tender. He was fine otherwise, so after consulting with my trainer, we decided to simply watch it. I checked the inside of my blanket to see if anything could be irritating the spot but found nothing.
When I took his blanket off last night, the swelling was gone - but the area around it was crusty. It had popped!
It's still a bit tender but not warm. I cleaned it up. and re-blanketed.
I'm in the Chicago area - it's cooold however his new barn is pretty snug, so yes, I'd think bugs could live inside - I was thinking spider. bite. Any ideas on what this might have been?

I was thinking it may be a spider bite as well. They do love to hide in stored blankets!
