Mountaineer Park has a new rule... anyone caught selling horses to the killer buyers ( who is banned from coming on the track property).. will have their stalls taken away AND be a Management exclusion.. which means they cant train at Mountaineer
the only thing I am worried about is someone destroying their lips so the tattoo cant be read

I know the slaughter ban is meant to benefit the horses, but I worry that horses will end up in really bad hands. Some meaningful people who over extend; some thinking they can make a fast buck; and some, for a price, take them and who knows what happens to them. I really worry about the future for these innocent horses who have done everything asked of them and then..........

If only the owners/trainers would be a bit more patient is placing there horses instead of trying to push them out now. I know they cost money and take up space, but hey they severed us in so many ways they at least deserve that! I find it usually takes anywhere from 2-6 months to sell a horse to a good buyer and thats for decent money, even in todays poor market.
If only If only .. . . . . . .

I hope the ban works. I just see too many ways around it. I also hope that the owners/ trainers are smart when they honestly sell their horses. I know my OTTB is still in the ladies name where I got him from. she said she lost his papers. If I sent him to the killer(which I would never do  ) He would be traced to her. I have a bill of sale I had to make her give me. She has nothing to prove the horse was not hers. |

Well they pulled 2 from the New Holland auction the other day.
Lets see what they do.
Canter got them.
We will see what happens to the owners........It is very easy to pay lip service to this...another to back it up.
Suffolk Downs should be commended, from what I understand they went after some of their horses(with help from canter)
They found them and were able to bring them back.
Another was from here (Beulah), we have no policy.

are u guys serious i thought ..... i dont know what i thought, but i have adopted a ottb, and im not a trainer, just a horse lover, and a lot of people told me i was wrong for adopting her. because i dont know the first thing about the life of a race horse.but i do understand enough to get us through this no matter how much it cost or how long she needs to recover, and im very great ful to have the pleasure to own a ottb. but after what ive just read she will be a queen at my house. and will never work on a track or see the likes of a sale barn. how could people do that to horses thats gonna make me cry!!!!!!!!! did anyone go to jail for this?

no its not illegal to sell horses to the killer buyers or to send them to auctions... its more a moral issue.. its been done all through time beginning with the first racetrack.. we just hope we can stop it... and the trainers that send those horses to the sale got out of it because they send them BEFORE the track adopted those rules... if anyone else does it.. welll who knows

well if anyone knows who cherokee babe is she raced for 8 years i just want you to know she is in a great home, big stall lots of room to run, a vet 1 mile away and anything else her heart desires is only a phone call away, she is one less girl you will have to worry about.
i sure wish i could help some how, do you want me to drive up and beat them with my irons.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
