Yucca?

I have been obsessing about what joint suppliment to give the elderly Parade. I started with pure MSM, which didn't do a whole lot for him. He is currently getting a glucosimine/condroitin/msm combo, which has made a bit of a difference. I was reading the Smarkpak catalog recently, and it says that for horses with acute joint problems (Parade) I should use something with an anti-inflammatory ingredient, like MSM, yucca or Devils Claw. So, I mention to a woman at the barn that I am thinking of switching Parade to yucca, and she warns me that it can have personality-changing effects. This old woman is kind of a wacko, and I need legitimate opinions.
I just want to make sure the pony is comfortable this winter. He is 27 y.o., and his joints are really starting to deteriorate, especially his back hocks. Right now he is just stiff, and doesn't seem to be in much pain, except when we have to trim his back feet (another story, another time). The barn staff suggested I leave a bottle of liniment on his door, and they will warm up his joints with it before he goes out in the morning. They also suggested buffered bute a few times a week. I do plan to have a my vet out for fall shots soon, and I will discuss options with him, but any suggestions/experiences are appreciated.

My best friend has an arthritic gelding. She was giving him bute on a daily basis. She switched him to BL Solution which is devil's claw and yucca. It has made a new horse of him. He has such a spring in his step. He's been on it for about 2 months now and I have seen absolutely no change in personality. He's very sweet and has a joker of a personality and that continues. Good luck!

3 things that I KNOW work!
Pure Glucosmine (contains 27,500 mg per ounce - standard does of others are only 5,000) OCD Pellets (VERY pricey, but are soooo great, we use them on our racers) Fish Oil - Just ask Goalie!

yes fish oil has done wonders for Eagle. he no longer creaks and groans when he plays now. He is more fluid and I am thrilled.
on the other side too though is a 27 yr old QH mare that gets BL solution every day and it has made a new woman out of her. She is no longer crabby or as arthritic as before and still wants to take the little ones for a walk. So I like both..
