Jag is uncomfortably wormy - he's rubbing his tail madly, and the skin around and under the tail is clean and healthy.
I've ordered a fecal kit, but it won't be here until Friday, and I'm going out of town this weekend, so I won't get the fecal results back until late next week.
I'm wondering if, given the fact that it will be two weeks (almost) before I know anything, if I should just get another Powerpack into him (or something else) to give him some relief and start tackling this problem.
Quick worming history: March - Panacur Powerpack (though I later learned that I should have given him the whole doses, not reduced for his weight, according to the vet) May - Quest Gold July - Ivermectin August - a second tube of ivermectin (vet's suggestion)
What would you do, exracers?

Has he had his sheath cleaned? They will rub their tails for that as well.

I agree with Lis, it SOUNDS as if he's rubbing it for different reasons than pinworms, which would have been taken care of with ivermectin. Sheath trouble is one. Biting insects like gnats or midges is another. And there's a mysterious, habitual itching syndrome that some horses get that can NEVER be cured... I had a Morgan who ruined his tail permanently from that.... Skin scrapings showed up nothing... he just rubbed it completely off down to the skin.

He's due for a sheath cleaning, I'll get that scheduled. Unfortunately I can't help him myself - you make one move towards his man parts and he makes it clear that if you go further, youse gonna get yourself kicked. He has to be sedated for that. Thx for the feedback!

My old mare used to get some sort of fungal infection this time of year in her mane and tail that would cause her to rub like crazy. It cleared up if I washed it with betadine shampoo.

Getting his sheath cleaned is a good idea. With the worming, giving a full syringe of wormer will not hurt the horse at all. It is better to over dose with wormer than to under dose. For instance, I have a friend who has 2 mares who are full sisters and they look identical. He went to worm them, gave one mare her dose and thought he was giving the other one her's, but then he realized he had given the first mare another full dose. That first mare showed no bad effects of having received a double dose. Though he did keep a close eye on the first mare. The other suggestions are appropriate, too.

With some wormers it does matter if you overdose them. Quest, for example, can cause neurologic problems if they are overdosed. Panacur is really safe and doesn't cause problems but some of the others can be a problem. By overdose I mean give too much at one dosing though so if you've waited awhile it should be ok.
