Niaru asked me to post this picture of Rita for her. "It was taken last week, before she was kicked, this is how I want to remember her: alert, curious, sweet..." She was truely a beautiful mare.

Thank you for posting the picture. It really says it all. What a beautiful mare. You can tell from the picture that her disposition was just as lovely as her face. It is sad she is gone. The world needs more mares just like her. Linda

What a very, very pretty girl, I'm so sad for you. She has a beautiful expression. I've been trying to mail you, Niaru, but it keeps bouncing back?

Niaru, as time passes you will look back on Rita and remember the love and happiness you had together. Her beauty is living-on over the bridge and she knows you loved her. Warm hugs for you....

You were both very lucky to have had each other. It is still unbelievable... I know she'll be a part of you forever.

Yup, that's the way Rita should be remembered! Just a peach of a mare, so pretty and athletic! I know it's hard Niaru, but could we post a few more? I love those pictures from last year's cross country schooling you did. Remember her POPPING over those jumps so cute? It seems hard to look at pics ofyour horse after it dies, but I remember that looking at the millions pics I had of my TB Swaps, afer he died in '99, was a real peaceful thing to do...he was pretty and I used to just LOVE staring at those pics. Plus I had some video I kept running over and over and over.... I still have his best portrait in my room with his brass halter plate on it and it looks so nice and peaceful.

Niaru -
What a wonderful picture to have. I'm so glad you have a recent one to remember her by. She was a lovely mare and a good friend. I pulled out your Christmas card picture last night and it just made me so sad. I can't imagine how you must be feeling. While I was gone for a few days this week, I was grilling my husband on his care of my horses. I KNEW the kids would be all right, but no one can take care of your equine kiddies, like yourself. I say my blessings every day they make it through safely (do it for my human kids, too!). Wishing you happier days.

You're right to remember her that way. I'm still stunned that she's gone, as I'm sure you are to. Wow, she was a gorgeous mare!

and Smay, if Zen doesn't mind, I'd be glad to send her a few more pics of Rita. I'm glad you could all see how kind and sweet she was. I'm doing a little better, I can now talk to people about her without falling apart completely...
