Luke tends to favor his front hooves when we go down gravel or hard roads. I never trot or canter him on the roads, but I always feel bad because he acts like it's uncomfortable.
Has anyone tried Epic Boots, are they worth the investment? I cannot afford to have him shod, and his hooves are healthier barefoot.

I don't have any experience with the Epics, but can definately recommend the Simple Boots by Cavallo. I got a pair for Riley when he punctured the sole on his front right foot last fall. I used them to keep the packing/bandage on his foot during his recovery time. He wore one (only on RF) 24/7 for 3 weeks during turnout and in his stall. It stayed on great and he was able to walk around outside very comfortably without his shoe on. I've used them once or twice since he's been barefoot when riding and they stayed on great and kept him comfortable. I know some others here who have used them and they gave great recommendations too.

I would buy them, but they are way out of my budget. I'm a 16 yr old with no job, LOL. ;D

I'm not sure what your budget it, but E-Bay has used hoof boots of all dfferent brands listed all of the time. And they're usually very reasonably priced. Just make sure you know the size that your horse needs first.

My TB is barefoot and had no issues before we moved to the new farm. He's now in Easyboot epics and loves them, totally sound and happy in them even on our gravel drive.
You might want to see if there's a barefoot trimmer in your area. One of my friends is a trimmer and she always has a great selection of new and used boots and she can fit them to your horse. Also once you know what will work for him you can look on ebay and other sites like bit and barter to find them for less.
