I got a little postcard from the doctor's office saying that my cholesterol levels have only improved slightly. Even though I've been exercising three times a week....and eating anything I darn well please. I'm going in for a follow-up appointment next week, and I know the advice will be statins or whatever. I just don't want to take those things. My hair will fall out. Where's the tantrum smiley?

Would you believe that 1 1/2 years ago my cholesterol was at 272?! Yep.....272!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't really change anything, and then last fall it was at 220-something. My doc wanted to put me on Lipitor....I was like, "umm....I'm 27....no thanks....you can keep your drugs." I could go on and on about genetics playing a huge role in our cholesterol levels regardless of what we put in our mouths or how often we workout, but I just get frustrated thinking about it. How much red meat and/or wine are you eating? How are your HDL levels? I'd like to find the tantrum smiley too!!!! Darn it! Hang in there, Ann....

I get flummoxed by the numbers, saraditty, but my Cholesterol is 217. HDL is 48 (which I think is fine) but LDL is 153, which is about 60 points too high, right? I don't eat much red meat at all, in fact hubby's a veggie, so I usually eat the way he does. But that includes lots of dairy, and I don't like lowfat dairy, so.... Red wine? Hardly ever, but that seems like a mistake! I should drink more red wine, shouldn't I. Wait just a doggone minute! I just looked up my test results from January when my total was 238 and my LDL was 173, so that's moving in the right direction, isn't it? Maybe if I keep at this exercise stuff and eat oatmeal EVERY morning I can keep making progress. That's what I'll propose.

I know how you feel about taking pills... I just read an article about giving cholestrerol reducing meds to kids!!!! seems that kids with parents with high cholesterol and low 'good ' cholestrerol (both parents) are proned to getting high cholestrol at a very young age....
mine is down to 182 and I do try but sometimes dont eat as well as I sshould so I take a pill... I have three stents so I dont want plack(sp) buildup around those stents so i do take a pill to help.. must be working!!
