Does anyone know if you can get a copy of a Coggins report from the vet who did it? The stable owners have my only copy of Adair's - and I don't suppose I need to tell you that they are causing me problems about letting me have it.

Yes, you can get a copy of the coggins. Am I missing something? Why won't the stable owners give you a copy? ? Good luck finding a better place! (Or have you already?) Give that big headed Yonk a kiss for me too will ya??!!

Yes, you can get copies from the vet. Some of them are funny about it though. Make sure that your vet signs the copies though, and in a color of ink different from the copy color.

Thanks Johnnie! Lynne: This shouldn't come as any surprise, but the stable owners are being difficult about giving it to me. The famous barn message board (Where I get all my nice messages!) is the best place to get in touch with them. Have left TWO different, very polite notes in a week for them asking for it and telling them I need it asap. I just lied and said I needed it for something else. It's been erased - so I know they read it - but no response. Which is their standard MO with me. My favorite last ignored message prior to this was "I notice the combination to the tack room lock has changed. I have things in there - could I please have the new one?" Finally had to ask another boarder.....

Wait a minute! This is YOUR horse! Why do the barn owners have your Coggins report in the first place? I can understand them wanting to see it, but they don't have to KEEP it! And their failure to respond to reasonable questions and requests is no good. Sounds like the gang that can't shoot straight, and you're wise to be barn shopping.
My vet draws blood for the Coggins test, and the report comes directly to me in the mail after the lab work is done.

My vet is fine about getting a copy of the coggins report. Your barn SUCKS though. This is insane. And now they change the locks to the tack room. What is wrong with them? My barn manager keeps a copy of the coggins on each horse in the barn. First to make sure that everyone has a current one done and also for the kids that show. Since she is usually the one that takes them, she always remembers the coggins. But she is also fine with just having a COPY on file. If I asked her for a copy or anything it would be given to me by the next time I saw her. I feel for you. I hope you can move on from this place. I feel very fortunate to be at my barn.

I was wondering the same thing as Ad, cause they should never have more than a copy of the report your vet should have mailed you. That is yours, you NEED that for shows, clinics, etc... AND you paid for it. Is there any way you can see them in person and get it from them? Tell them you'd be more than happy to give them a copy of it for their barn records, but that you NEED the original. If not, call your vet, I'm sure he/she can do something for you there.
Best of luck on your barn hunting, they are out there if you look hard enough. :coffee:

When I first got Adair - they wanted the Coggins for their file - so I gave them what I had in the confusion and excitement - which was the original. He was shipped down from Oklahoma, so they had his blood pulled at the barn up there and sent the papers with the shipper. I didn't worry about it, because I just figured they could get a copy and I could get them later. I have emailed the lady who sold him to me to see if I could get the contact info for her vet to get a copy. In BOTH notes to them, I said I would get a copy and return it to them promptly. The first time I asked was when we were literally iced in here, so I thought it would be a good time - since they LIVE ON THE PROPERTY and would be able to have the time to find it and drop it off to MY STALL! Hopefully I will hear from the lady in Oklahoma and get it handled soon. See my general boarding update in a separate post, in which I dish.

Not sure how fast you need it, but if the Coggins they gave you is more than a year old, you are due for a new one anyway. Might just have the Vet draw blood and get a new one then. Most places and states won't accept one that is more than a year old.

Shannon, ignore my question in the other post about why you can't get a copy, but I think Zen is right. Heck for 20 bucks or so you can get a new one. And it probably isn't in the budget wehn you add in the trip charge but the JOY of getting the barn owner out of your life must be worth a hundred!
I hate this for you and I've been there. If it makes you feel any better, I boarded at a barn for two years with three horses. At that barn they had a horse chasing dog that got hit by a car. I wanted the odg anyway, but when it got hit the owner just cried and cried that she couldn't afford to fix it (it was originally a stray) and so I took it to the vet hospital where I worked and put it on my account and my vet did EVERYTHING to cut the price down given my discount and the dog being a stray and all. It required surgery etc. and then cage time whihc it spent at MY HOUSE. The bill for the dog was 850.00 discounted to 175.00. All I wanted was the 175. The barn owner then began soliciting donations from other boarders saying that the dogs bill had been eight hundred dollars and however was she gonna pay it. PISSED me off. I said nothing. Needless to say I never got the 175 either, nor was it deducted from my bill (whihc was another bumblefrick deal).
THEN on Thanksgiving eve one year I felt bad that they all had to go in and clean stalls and feed etc (my horses were pasture board but I always helped out) I offered to come andhelp thanksgiving morning with another boarder ....we took out spouses and NO ONE ELSE SHOWED UP!!!! No One.
Nuts.
Does that make you feel better at all? There's more if you need it HAHAHAHAHAHAH
GET OUT OF DODGE!!!
