worked very patiently and methodically and got Mattie away from the barn to meet some other riders down the road for a trail ride. Mattie was a pretty good girl...I am so proud of her! This is only her 5th trail ride ever with me. We encountered garbage cans and lids in all positions (garbage day), miniature horses charging fences in glee (let me tell you..that was cause for panic! Mattie and I were bolting, spinning and flying around then! Scary!), barking and charging dogs and the ever scary garbage truck (the truck itself didn't bother her but when the air brakes engaged and made that Pfft sound we went a flying). So...3 hours later a very relaxed Mattie and I are alone and walking the rest of the way home (MUCH easier then walking away from the barn let me tell you!). We jigged and walked, jigged and walked. We have to pass a garbage can and lid on one side and a culvert with a drain on the other. Both slight cause for concern for Mattie but she bravely walks by staring like crazy when 2 dogs come out of no where and bark like crazy. I think I stepped on the garbage can...and backed up in the street. ;D Then we went home. What a trouper! And a pat on the back for me for not getting off when her several episodes of Airs Above the Ground happened. Here is one for the chicken riders of the world! LOL

scariest things know to horsekind. I think S.May can also vouch for this! The Fabulous Yonkie doesn't spook easily, but the first time they led the minis at our barn past her, she had a PRICELESS expression on her face. It was sort of ---- incredulous and a little disdainful at the same time! Sounds like an entertaining ride, though, and that she was ever-so-brave. You too!

Not sure how my present bunch would respond, but my first horse (a gelding) LOVED mini-horses. He was always TEXT interested in them.

Sounds great, I cant wait to be able to do some trails with Tango. There are lots of them up at the farm we are buying, some go thru a really awsome pine forest with streams and all. I dont know yet what Tango will think about it but I have a feeling she is going to enjoy trail riding. As far as minis go there is a lil bay mare mini(we call her Sweet N Nasty) at the barn that Tango thinks must be evil LOL. The old guy wants to literaly kill the poor lil thing and Tango goes along with what her main man does ...I am actualy going to try and buy the mini when we leave for the farm cause hubby is in love with her. I will have to get her a mini pal thou since tango and the old guy wont have anything to do with her and I think I would be to scared to put themout together since he has let it be known he wants to stomp her into the dirt. I was thinking about maybe a goat would be a good al for her since I do want one or 2 of those and they are the same size.

Again you all crack me up! Zen you are too flippin funny... :hahaha: :hahaha:
Mare....congrats on the ride!! I would have gotten off for sure. I have become the worlds BIGGEST chicken when riding and especially alone. It sounds like fun though, to go somewhere else and ride with someone else. Aaaaa....to dream. Congratulation on the success of both of you!

At the racetrack where I work, one horse's stable buddy is a goat. I think the goat is more dependent on her at times since he starts to go crazy when she leaves. It's so cute when he welcomes her home. They touch noses and then the goat wags his tail and everything is okie-dokie.

oh!oh! You'll never guess what I saw at the track when I went to get Charm...beside several goats and roosters...I saw a FURRY chick!! I swear it looked like a mutant chicken (or a kid's stuffed animal), with furry body and furry feet! All white. I don't know which horse it 'belonged to', but it sure was quite a sight!
Mare congrats on your successful trailride! I can't wait to try Charm out on the trails...she doesn't seem scared of too many things so far, on the contrary, she wants to investigate.

I had some of those when I was younger - white ones. They looked like little Eskimos running around - or - and I will REALLY date myself here - like the Shmoos in the Lil' Abner comic strip!
